  1. So by that you mean highly prestigious and much coveted?
  2. I kind of like the deranged Wilmer photos. I voted for the Post's version over Newsday's because it had more of a focus on Wilmer.
  3. I don't have a problem with 81 games, if that's what it ends up being. I think each incident has to be evaluated on its own. All domestic abuse is bad, of course, but there should be stronger penalties, I think, for a savage beating than for a single open-handed slap. We don't, of course, know all the details, but if Jose grabbed his wife by the throat, slammed her against a wall, and caused injuries that required her to go to a hospital, I'd say that's fairly severe. Certainly not MOST severe, but I think it's severe enough to warrant 81 games.
  4. Mejia would be ineligible for the 2016 postseason, but that would be a problem for a later date.
  5. I'm guessing that Josh Edgin is on the same schedule, roughly, as Zack Wheeler, so we probably won't see him until June or July. I think I read somewhere that the Mets are open to forgiving Jenrry Mejia again. Is Vic Black still alive? Addison Reed will be back unless he's non-tendered, which seems unlikely. Tyler Clippard is almost certainly gone. I can see an increased role for Hansel Robles. I also wonder if Jerry Blevins might still be in the mix. He's a free agent, but I sense that he'd like to stick around. He just needs to stop breaking his damn arm!
  6. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Matt Harvey has a poor outing against the Giants. Expectant father Jeurys Familia earns a save. Mets lose an extra-inning game after the bullpen blows a lead. An 11th-inning hit by Wilmer Flores gives the Mets a win. Former Met Darryl Hamilton has been murdered. Travis d'Arnaud is injured again. The Mets have lost six in a row.
  7. Not that I've seen. As far as I can tell, it's just been fan and media buzz. But the media buzz may have its sources from within the Boston organization. I doubt that it's coming from the Mets side of the equation.
  8. Red Schoendienst: Still alive! (I wouldn't have guessed that.) He'll be 93 on Groundhog Day.
  9. True. And we have a GM who fainted at the idea of rehiring Terry Collins.
  10. Willets Point would surely know better than I would, but I get the sense that there's been a fair amount of background buzz in Boston about Matt Harvey being a Red Sock in 2016. I've seen quite a bit of speculation about Harvey for Betts (I believe he wouldn't be the first Met named "Mookie") as well as for the shortstop, Xander Bogaerts. Bogaerts is also a Boras client, but he has four years of control left compared to Harvey's three.
  11. I guess so. And maybe I should have done that. But if these articles are going to continue to be revised, there's still a chance that confusion will result.
  12. And yes, the lead paragraph changed after I initially posted the link: Joel Sherman's revised paragraph wrote: Mets officials inquired Thursday morning about the now available Andrelton Simmons and were told by their Braves counterparts it would take Jacob deGrom or Matt Harvey to land the shortstop, which instantly curtailed talks, The Post has learned. You see, I tried to be ethical and post a link instead of copying the article, and it just led to confusion. Next time I'll copy and paste instead.
  13. Centerfield wrote: If they are asking for one of the big 4, they should be laughed off. I agree. I don't blame them for asking, but the answer has to be no.
  14. In the very first paragraph, it says, "the Braves have let clubs know they would be willing to discuss Andrelton Simmons". That's different from picking a player at random and saying, "Would we be able to get Trout for Harvey." And how do YOU know what they're actually asking for?
  15. MFS62 wrote: If he's that good, why are they trading him? If they have someone in the minors who they think is better, why not go for that guy? The price might be cheaper, since that player hasn't proven himself in the majors yet. Why would the Braves have a lower asking price for the guy they want to keep than for the guy they want to trade?
  16. Ceetar wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: The initial asking price may turn out to be higher than what Atlanta might eventually accept. this is true of every single player in the majors though. So then... nobody is "worth talking about"? A forum that doesn't talk about things would quickly become as pointless as your initial reply.
  17. The initial asking price may turn out to be higher than what Atlanta might eventually accept.
  18. Joel Sherman in the New York Post says that the Braves may trade Andrelton Simmons: Braves make Andrelton Simmons available; should Mets get involved? Joel Sherman wrote: I have been told that in early talks, they have asked for a huge return price on Simmons, but I do wonder if the Mets would at least entice further discussion if they started a package with Kevin Plawecki and well-regarded shortstop prospect Amed Rosario.
  19. Zvon wrote: Aren't you blowing through these kinda fast? We got over 100 days to kill before spring training. I estimate that this thing will end in late January.
  20. The worst news in that article is that Conforto is a Boras client.
  21. Was Granderson the last out in that game? Both Newsday and The Post included a photo of him walking away from the plate.
  22. John Harper saying that Reyes should be banned 81 games. We probably need to know more details, but I don't think that's unreasonable.
  23. . Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. Ruben Tejada gets a key hit against Miami. Bartolo Colon contribued too, with an RBI double in his 8th win of the season. Jacob deGrom and the Mets shutout the Padres. David Wright's recovery is not going well. Matt Harvey beats the Diamondbacks, but Daniel Murphy is injured. Chris Heston of the Giants no-hits the Mets. (The Daily News seems to think that it was Charlton Heston.)
  24. If the Mets were to sign Desmond, would that cancel out the draft pick the Mets would get for losing Murphy? Or would they lose their first round pick, but retain the supplemental pick they'd get for Murphy?
  25. Someone should have felt his arms to see if they were chilly.
