  5. [bIGPURPLE]FINAL REMINDER![/bIGPURPLE] Benjamin Grimm wrote: http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/images/warning.gif> http://potg.leaptoad.com/mets/Cast your votes now! Voting for all games played through April 16, the series against the Twins in Minneapolis, will close on Monday, April 28. If there are any games that you haven't yet voted for, and intend to, please try to do so this week.
  6. That's really not accurate. There's not a 50/50 chance that a meteor will hit the Chrysler Building on Labor Day.
  7. An update. I'm not sure how much faith to put in any of this, but I'll just report what I've been told. This site has, for quite a few years now, been hosted by a company called JustHost. They were recently acquired by a company called BlueHost, and that may be what triggered things going so badly. Until this week, however, I was still able to access the tools on the JustHost server. Now it forces me to a BlueHost login, and from there I can't even get to the files or the database. So even if I wanted to migrate to a different host (and it's definitely being considered!) I can't get access to anything. They tell me that there's an issue with the migration. Something about database cross references. I couldn't get a clear explanation. But they're working on the issue. ("Rest assured," they tell me.) The "Too Many Requests" errors, they say, are because of database pointers that need to be resolved. I opened a case on Tuesday and was told it would take 48 hours to resolve. I checked in today, and they're asking for another 48 hours. Needless to say, I'm not filled with confidence. I guess that if the issues get resolved and things look good, we'll stay where we are. And if not, I can start looking for an alternative once I get access to the files and database once again. Migrating to a new host is more of a project than I care to take on, but if I have to I'll get to it when I can. And that's where we're at.
  8. When you start a new thread, look just below and to the left of the Submit button. There are three tabs. The third one says "Poll Creation". Click on that and take it from there.
  9. I would rather they had it so that they'd play by the regular rules for 12 innings, and then if it's still tied, it remains that way. A tie game that counts in the standings as half a win and half a loss.
  10. The Mets are now projected to be the second-seeded division winner, which would earn them a bye from the Wild Card round. Baseball Reference has the Mets in the NLDS vs. the winner of Padres-Brewers, and the Cubs against the winner of Giants-Diamondbacks. In the American League, the Tigers get the first seed and the Yankees the second. Tigers would play the winner of Mariners-Guardians, and the Yankees would face the winner of Astros-Royals. The Mets are projected to win 94 games, 11 more than the Braves and 12 more than the Phillies. They have a 93.1% chance of making the postseason. Braves are at 20.8, Phillies at 15.4. Cubs 95.8. Padres 86.0. Dodgers are at 61.3, projected to win 89 games. The odds for the Marlins, Nationals, Pirates, Rockies, White Sox, and Angels are all less than 1 percent.
  11. And he's signed through 2030, so it would be great if he could figure things out. He's only a month past his 32nd birthday, so he's a bit too young to be washed up, but you never know.
  12. See the Bitch to the Admins thread for an update.
  13. I'm content to root for the good guys without really knowing who the bad guys are. I already can't remember the names of almost all of the 2024 Brewers, and I was paying very close attention during those three games last October. I remember Jackson Chorizo (or something like that) but I've forgotten the name of the guy who hurt himself running into the wall chasing a foul ball, and the free agent shortstop who went to, I think, the Giants. I would have forgotten Frankie Montas if he hadn't signed with the Mets. I can't recall the other two pitchers who started against the Mets in that series. I know Christian Yelich, but he was on the injured list. And that's about all I've got.
  14. I'm more optimistic about Soto and Vientos than I am about Nimmo.
  15. In the days before division realignment, when the Mets shared a division with the Cubs, Cardinals, Phillies, Pirates, and Expos, the Mets would visit Pittsburgh (and Chicago, St. Louis, Philadelphia and Montreal) for nine games each year. Now they only play three games each year in Pittsburgh. (And St. Louis too. Either three or six in Chicago, because of the White Sox.)
  16. True, but there have also been some significant changes. The starting rotation is very different, and Juan Soto has essentially replaced Harrison Bader.
  17. This is from the thread that discussed the proposed "Golden At Bat". https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33980Golden AT-Bat "buzz" Benjamin Grimm wrote: I thought of twenty changes that have come to the game since I started watching in 1971, including two changes that have since been rescinded and the one that is being proposed here. I ranked them from best to worst. I'm not including changes to free agency, drafts, compensation, arbitration, trade deadlines, waiver rules, qualifying offers, injured list, etc. I limited it to things that more directly affect what happens during the game and how the postseason field is determined. The first section are things that I feel mostly positive about. The middle section is where I'm more or less neutral. And the bottom section are things that I feel mostly (or entirely) negative out. Please feel free to chime in with your own rankings! 18. I think we had a thread about this. (I'm probably the one most likely to remember it because I think I started it.) I'll have to see if I can find it. The DH is awful, but the ghost runner is worse.

  20. Based on the vote counts, it looks like we may still have one to three voters who haven't voted the two series against the A's and the Twins yet, and maybe the last game or two against the Marlins. There's still time... the games will continue to be available for voting until Monday morning.

  23. In this week's MLB Fans At Bat survey, one of the questions was how I'd feel about listening to AI-generated broadcasts and recaps. I find it hard to believe that Gary, Keith, and Ron will be replaced by AI any time soon, but it's an uncomfortable thought. I can imagine the AI commentator going off on a multi-inning tangent about ballpark food.
  24. It was recently revealed that Pete and Haley Alonso's fetus has an X and a Y chromosome, but I haven't seen anything about a due date. I know it's a bit premature (the question, not the baby) but I'm wondering if there's a potential for paternity leave during a pennant race or postseason. Players should probably try to avoid inseminating their partners from December through February.
