  1. I'd be totally down with that.
  2. Source: Mets and Cespedes Closing In On 1-2 Year Deal? You know what would be great? A 1-year deal. Jim Duquette (on Mets Hot Stove) has been using the term "pillow contract" regarding Cespedes. I'm not sure where the term comes from, but it would be a one-year deal that would allow Cespedes to test the free agent market again next year, when, according to Duquette, there will be less outfield competition. The risk to that, of course, would be that he'd be a year older and perhaps injured. I'm not sure what the ideal deal length is. From the Mets perspective, I'd be okay with them going to a second year, but that would probably make less sense for Cespedes, because then he'll be two years older for his next free agency. My hunch is that he'll either get a four- or five-year deal from someone, or go for the one-year pillow deal. I'm not sure that a two-year contract makes sense for him.

  4. I'm going to send them a twenty dollar bill. Maybe I can induce them to up that number to 93 wins.
  5. I'm looking forward to Mets Hot Stove this evening. If this really is a developing story, by 6 p.m. things may be a bit more clear.
  6. Interesting. Here's a link to the original article, by Rich Mancuso: Exclusive: Cespedes Meets With The Mets I don't know how credible Mancuso is, but here's what he's' saying: A source at Roc Nation, agents for Cespedes, and involved in their pro boxing division, was able to confirm that negotiations reopened late Wednesday with Cespedes and the Mets organization. And two other sources with knowledge have been able to confirm that Cespedes and the Mets are meeting with a one or two year deal on the table that is agreeable for both sides. (Why the mention of the pro boxing division?)

GROUP FOUR CHAMPION Winner of Round 1.4.6 Winner of Round 2.4.4 Winner of Round 3.4.2 Winner of Round 4.4.1 TEAM OF DESTINY New York Daily News, October 27, 2015 With the World Series about to begin, the Daily News publishes a special wraparound cover. The New York Post had eight of the Sweet Sixteen entries (compared to five for the Daily News and three for Newsday) but the balance of power has shifted to the News, which has three of the four remaining covers. The fifth round of competition will get underway next week, with N.Y. CITI facing CON4TO! and YES-PEDES facing TEAM OF DESTINY. The final round of the 2015 Tabloid Cover Derby will occur the following week.
  8. Voting for Round 4.4.1 is complete, and after the voting thread was bumped due to a lingering 6-6 tie, the Daily News' TEAM OF DESTINY surged to a 12-9 victory over the New York Post's APPLE JACKS! TEAM OF DESTINY is therefore the Group Four champion and advances to the Final Four. . . . . . .
  9. Voting for Round 4.3.1 is now ended, and in somewhat of an upset, The Daily News' YES-PEDES has defeated the New York Post's CAPITAL THRILL! by a tally of 9 to 8. YES-PEDES is therefore our Group Three champion and advances to the Final Four. . . . . . .
  10. YAY!
  11. Oh, I'd buy a luxury box, or a suite, or whatever it is you can buy as an obscenely wealthy fan, but I don't think I'd buy a share of the ballclub.
  12. Hint: The Mets have played 54 seasons.
  13. If we're assuming that money is no object, I'd get rid of stadium advertising. And no thanks to the bombastic scoreboard. My ideal name for the stadium: Kiner-Murphy Park.
  14. The Daily News' "U" DA MAN! cover has romped through this competition, winning every poll fairly easily, but it finally met its match in the News' CON4TO! The Michael Conforto cover beat the Juan Uribe cover 11 to 3 in the fourth round. CON4TO! is the Group Two champion and will advance to the Final Four. . . . . . .
  15. 8-8 now. This one may be headed for tie-breaker territory. A few more days to go, however.
  16. Hmmm... by bumping this thread I've managed to convert a 6-6 tie into a 7-7 tie.
  17. I agree with 2. and 3. My other choice, instead of the caps thing, would be to rename the stadium. Pay off Citi and let the Mets have a home that doesn't have a corporate name.
  18. A few days remaining in this poll and it's still tied. Anyone else care to chime in?
  19. Voting for Round 4.1 has finished, and the New York Post's N.Y. CITI has defeated the Post's RUNAWAY TRAIN! by a vote of 11 to 5. N.Y. CITI is, therefore, the Group One champion and will advance to the Final Four. . . . . . .
  20. Theda Bara is an anagram for "Arab Death".
  21. Mac Scarce.
  22. Here's mine: 62ND ROUND DRAFT PICK BECAME 1993 N.L. ROOKIE OF YEAR AND 12-TIME ALL-STAR. HIT RECORD 396 HOME RUNS AS A CATCHER, 427 OVERALL. LED METS TO 2000 N.L. CHAMPIONSHIP. POST-TERROR HOME RUN ON 9/21/2001 WAS CATHARTIC FOR NEW YORK CITY AND NATION. NOT GAY, JUST "METROSEXUAL"
  23. If you had told me it was a cheap watch and an expensive tie, I wouldn't have had any reason to disbelieve you.
  24. And then there's Johan Santana, who's definitely a coulda-been but seems likely to fall short. He at least does well in "Black Ink" according to Baseball Reference: Baseball Reference wrote: Black Ink Pitching - 42 (37), Average HOFer ≈ 40 Gray Ink Pitching - 122 (157), Average HOFer ≈ 185 Hall of Fame Monitor Pitching - 82 (139), Likely HOFer ≈ 100 Hall of Fame Standards Pitching - 35 (99), Average HOFer ≈ 50 JAWS Starting Pitcher (81st), 51.4 career WAR/44.8 7yr-peak WAR/48.1 JAWS Average HOF P (out of 62) = 73.9 career WAR/50.3 7yr-peak WAR/62.1 JAWS
