  1. I think Terry said that we might see Duda in three weeks.
  2. Geez, I forgot all about Jim Henderson.
  3. It's hard to argue that Wilmer Flores is hot if he's barely played for almost two weeks.
  4. He didn't lead the team in shutouts until 1971. But he had 2 in 1967, 5 in 1968, 5 in 1969, and 2 in 1970. That page doesn't list all shutouts. It lists who led the team in each season.
  5. I love complete game shutouts. I wish they weren't as rare as they are, but that's probably what makes them special. The Mets have never had a season in which they didn't have at least one CG/ShO, but they only had one in each of the last two years. (Zack Wheeler in 2014 and Bartolo Colon in 2015.) http://leaptoad.com/mets/yrleaders.php?cattype=p#sho
  6. It's nice how Terry has given Wilmer Flores every opportunity to get over his hot streak by not playing.
  7. I first read "Eflin" as "Elfin" which would be a much more interesting name, because then he'd have pointed ears and would live in a tree and make cookies.

It went unused through the 1990 and 1991 seasons, but then was pretty much in constant use for the next eleven seasons. I don't recall what might have happened after 2002 to make number 8 suddenly become more sacred. http://leaptoad.com/mets/uninumbers.php
  10. I agree. Retiring 8 would be absurd. They should just reissue it. It's been idle long enough.
  11. I like what the Red Sox do. I may be mistaken but I believe they have a system for retiring numbers. A player must be in the Hall of Fame and had to have played at least 10 years for them. THAT's a guy whose number should be retired. That is a pretty good rule of thumb, but it might be a little too strict for my taste, which is stricter than most. But I think the Mets should eventually retire 5 for David Wright, and he's very unlikely to ever meet that criteria.

  13. We actually had to cancel our big summer vacation plans because of family health issues -- we were going to leave for Australia tomorrow -- but that's off. We may take a more modest trip over the next few weeks, or we may not go anywhere at all. So Schaefer, at least, will have less of a disruption than had been expected.
  14. Next time I'm at Citi Field I'll have to stop in the museum to take a look at the display of Dwight Gooden's warts.
  15. Would anyone have guessed that James Loney would score highest among position players in June? Less than a full point separated the leaders in the reliever category. The top three finishers were Hansel Robles, 6.86, Addison Reed, 6.27, and Jeurys Familia -- the ten-time winner finished in third place this month with 6.14 points. Kelly Johnson earned 3.05 points in June in games in which he was not in the starting lineup. Runners up were Matt Reynolds (2.81), Alejandro De Aza (1.65), Wilmer Flores (1.19), Juan Lagares (0.73) and Kevin Plawecki (0.11)
