  1. It's weird. I want Granderson to win, but Utley to lose.
  2. batmagadanleadoff wrote: 17 one-time Mets haven't appeared in an MLB game since the 2016 season. The UMDB has 31 people who fit that category. The list may not be fully up to date, since I haven't done my year-end reconciliation yet. I'll send you my 31 in a PM. And of course, since I have "inside information" I'll refrain from posting any guesses.
  3. Making this team a contender for 2018 is going to be quite a challenge. I hope they have a plan that goes beyond hoping that all of their starters with 6+ ERAs remain healthy.

  5. My apologies to Chris Flexen. I should have reserved my scorn for Erik Goeddel. (Perhaps Erik is still dizzy?)
  6. The Daily News ran an Associated Press article today that contemplated Stanton's chances of breaking Roger Maris' record of 61 homers. No mention of the fact that that record was broken years ago. (I think it still stands as the American League record, but that wouldn't apply to Stanton.)
  7. Mets or former Mets who played in the big leagues in 2016 but not in 2017. I used to post something like this every year in a thread called "Did Somebody Move Their Cheese?"
  8. The Mets got a run back on a pinch-single by d'Arnaud. Chris Flexen now pitching for the Mets. I anticipate another five runs for Miami.
  9. I just took a peek at the score. Things don't seem to be going all that well. Marlins up 5-0 and batting in the fourth.
  10. Voting for all games played between September 1 and September 14 will close on Thursday, September 28. If you're on the list below with a 13 next to your name, you're all caught up on the games that are about to close. If not, and if you're so inclined, please try to get your votes in over the next week. Ashie62 13 TMF 13 Benjamin Grimm 13 G-Fafif 13 OhSheaCanKC 13 seawolf17 1
  11. I thought that too at first, but Cheap-O isn't an airline; it's a ticket booking service.
  12. Do you think David Wright would challenge Sandy?
  13. Yikes! I have trouble with a name like "Scott Boras." How am I going to handle "Odrisamer Despaigne"?
  14. Oh. I thought it meant I could start dating beautiful Hollywood actresses and driving a Cadillac. I don't think Ava Gardner would like it if I came by to pick her up in my Honda Accord.
  15. I got his name wrong, didn't I? I'm turning into Ralph Kiner! It's Scott Boras, right?
  16. Well, Steve Boros almost never lets his clients agree to a contract that will delay free agency. The Mets may have tried to get him to give on that, or they may have figured it was hopeless and not bothered to try. My feeling is that the plan would have been to trade him after the 2017 season if things hadn't played out so poorly, both for Harvey himself and the pitchers who might have replaced him in the rotation.
  17. I was thinking I'd non-tender him, but John Harper pointed out the other day that the Mets can give Harvey a contract (through arbitration or otherwise) and then get out of it (mostly) by releasing him, if necessary, at the end of spring training.
  18. After this fiasco of a Mets season I have no room for sympathy for any other teams. Sorry Pirates! I got my own problems!
  19. I hope that "selling to fans" gets as little consideration as possible.
  20. Ron Darling was speaking very highly of Cubs bench coach Dave Martinez when the Mets were in Chicago. I don't know if he'd be considered as a Mets candidate, since Ron probably isn't part of the screening process.
  21. Did Gavin Cecchini serve Rosario his lunch today?
