  1. This is kind of intriguing. Kristie Ackert wrote: Besides injuries, the Mets’ other main issue is that they do not have a stockpile of good young players. They were not happy with how shortstop prospect Amed Rosario, first base Dominic Smith and some young pitchers came up to the majors looking unprepared. “I was disappointed with how some of our young players performed over the course of a few weeks. I am glad we got a look at them, but in some cases there is work to be done,” Alderson said. “There are going to be changes at our Triple-A affiliate, in fact, I think major changes. We’re taking a hard look at the rest of our player development system as well.” Alderson sees Collins, who stepped down as manager after Sunday’s season finale, as someone who can help get the minor-league system in order. He has the title of special assistant to the GM. Mets dump pitching coach Dan Warthen, head trainer Ray Ramirez as part of sweeping changes
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: Kind of cool that the Twins were able to go from 103 losses last year to a playoff spot this season I wasn't aware of that! That offers at least a measure of hope for the 2018 Mets.
  3. Mike Vaccaro of the Post endorses Alex Cora. Why Mets should screw the safe route and give Alex Cora his shot
  4. The Post reports that the Mets will try to kick off the manager search by interviewing Geren and Cora. Mike Puma wrote: Indications are general manager Sandy Alderson will begin interviewing candidates this week, and may first attempt to speak with Bob Geren and Alex Cora, before both become ensconced in the postseason with their respective teams. The first 2 manager candidates Mets likely want to meet
  5. You really are absurd.
  6. So if I'm not watching tomorrow's game, I can't post in this thread?
  7. Fman99 wrote: MLB's outright refusal to schedule simultaneous playoff games is just the dumbest thing going. Like a 2 PM start is somehow better than two prime time games to choose from. There was a time, I think in the early 90s, when they did simultaneous playoff games. Back then, I was someone who wanted to be able to watch every game, and I didn't like that they were doing that. Now, of course, I'm not going to watch any baseball until next March 29, so I no longer care.
  8. If you don't know, I'm not sure who will!
  9. If the Braves signed any players illegally, any teams interested in those players should put their name in a hat...
  10. Vic Sage wrote: And the race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong... but that's the way to bet. Higher draft choices are better than lower draft choices. It's neither controversial nor complicated. Well, sure, but I also don't think the difference is worth continually lamenting that the Mets went 12-17 over the last month of the season instead of 9-20.
  11. Addison Reed led the Mets in saves this year, the lowest total to lead the club since John Franco lead the Mets with only 10 saves in 1993. Jacob deGrom's 239 strikeouts in 2017 were the most by a Mets pitcher since David Cone had 241 in 1991. Jose Reyes led the club in at bats with 501, the lowest total to lead the team since Mike Cameron led with 493 in 2004. Asdrubal Cabrera led the Mets in hits with 134, the lowest total since Kaz Matsui with 125 in 2004. Cabrera and Reyes were the only Mets to have enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title, and deGrom was the only pitcher with enough innings to qualify for the ERA title.
  12. The guy who the Mets would have drafted with the 4th pick might still be available to them when they pick 6th. The guy who gets drafted 6th might turn out to be better than the guy who is drafted 4th. The guy who gets drafted 4th might be somebody who voted for Jill Stein.
  13. I don't find this news to be the least bit exciting.
  14. The Daily News wrote: To close SNY’s broadcast of game 162, Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez signed off for the 12th straight season together, but not before the pair teased some sort of Mets announcement that will take place Monday. “Stay tuned tomorrow. Just keep your ears up,” Cohen said while smirking and pointing to Hernandez. “He’s an important guy.” Some announcement tomorrow about Keith? I have no idea what it might be, but I'm pretty sure that it won't be that he's the next Mets manager.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: I don't think Flexie's a lost cause. He came up from AA in an emergency. A few seasons from now, he might be quite goodish. That's fair. We can give him another shot in 2019.
  16. I do hope we've seen the last of Chris Flexen.
  17. Niese is the winningest pitcher of the decade, so far. http://leaptoad.com/mets/decades.php?ThisDecade=2010
  18. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I have no reason to believe giving him a "senior baseball advisor" role would do any damage to anyone. Fred loves old guys. Mets are to announce Terry staying with the club in a front office role, Ken Rosenthal reports I approve.
  19. I was just responding to your statement that Phillips or Kendrick can be had on a shorter-term deal than Reyes. I think Reyes can be had on a one-year deal. Whether the Mets should do that or not is another thing entirely.
  20. I doubt that either of those guys can be had on a shorter-term deal than Reyes, who would probably agree to a one-year contract.
  21. I think in that case it's a very soft H, as in "Juan", which is, very subtly, "Hu-an".
  22. Bruce may be a possibility, but I'm pretty sure we've seen the last of Walker and Granderson.
  23. Baseball Reference wrote: Pronunciation: \Jer-ISS fa-MEAL-ya\ I don't know if this is the definitive answer, but the accent on the second syllable surprises me. I'm also skeptical of the J sound at the beginning. We need to somehow get this from the horse's mouth. (And no, I'm not saying that Familia is a horse. I'm just saying that he has a mouth.)
