  1. Somehow, I didn't recognize "Egyptian Healy".
  2. And THAT was his 101st home run as a Met.
  3. That was Jose's 100th home run as a Met.
  4. Except for that part about the "division clincher."
  5. Or perhaps, Chicken of the Sea Wolf.

  7. Any relation to Nick Evans? Or Dwight Evans? Or Dale Evans? Or Maurice Evans? Or Linda Evans?
  8. Are you suggesting that David Wright needs to drink more liquid feces? (Wow, that's a callback to a story from more than ten years ago!) You should send him a tweet suggesting that. After all, what harm could it do?
  9. I easily recognized Ron Darling, of course, but I also got the Baltimore Oriole. I just looked at him and said, "Oh, that's Al Bumbry!" I don't know how the hell I knew that. If I had to list 500 Baltimore Orioles, I don't think I would have ever thought of Al Bumbry. I remember nothing about Al Bumbry. But somehow I recognized his face at a glance.
  10. That ERA of 5 suggests he'd fit in well with the rest of the Mets big-league rotation.
  11. You have to admire his determination. Although it would be more accurate to phrase it as "He intends to keep trying to play." Has he already had the rotator cuff surgery? Or is it still something that's scheduled? There are so many injuries and surgeries that I can't keep track of them all.
  12. I was just able to get Torre this time. Those black-and-white photos are often tough, although sometimes it's someone with a very familiar face, like Ruth or Cobb or Walter Johnson.
  13. The month of September is offering opportunities for the few remaining players to get what could be a rare chance at Schaefer glory.
  14. Wait... WHAT? We have to do this again in 2018???
  15. Of the current batch, I only got one, the former Met in the White Sox cap. I only had one other guess, the Houston Astro, and I was wrong. Thought it was Dickie Thon, but it was one of his teammates.
  16. I didn't get any of that batch. I should have gotten Eric Davis, and might have gotten McCutchen if not for his short hair in the photo.
  17. While I was walking the dog this morning, I was thinking of Duquette's prediction that the Mets would be in on Eric Hosmer. I wonder if he just made that up himself, or if he based that on inside information? It would be an interesting development if they did pursue him, given that it would mean turning away from Dominic Smith at a very early point. My guess is that they'll focus their attention on an outfielder, and perhaps a second- or third-baseman. Two months until the next episode of Mets Hot Stove. It will be interesting to know which players will be discussed.
  18. Did things start to go bad for them when they got Curtis Granderson? They should really start to worry if they have a 7.5 game lead with 17 to play.
  19. Maybe they should start putting holograms on blessings, so you can know that they're authentic. I'm learning from this story that I didn't know who Craig Carton was. I thought he was Chris Carlin, from SNY.
  20. From that group, I was only able to recognize Jon Matlack and Al Oliver.
  21. Baseball Reference doesn't have a picture of Jose Canseco. When I visit that site each day (more or less) to paste stats and box scores, I play a little game with the twelve faces that appear on the left side of the page. I try to see how many players I can recognize. (Usually I get two, sometimes three, once in a great while four. Today I was able to identify Aaron Haaaraang, Pascual Perez, and, in a Cleveland cap, Asdrubal Cabrera.) Today, one of the faces was a generic image that looked like this: I figured it was probably somebody very obscure, like Moonlight Graham, but it turned out to be Jose Canseco!
  22. Voting for all games played between August 14 and August 31 will close on Friday, September 15. If you're on the list below with an 18 next to your name, you're all caught up on the games that are about to close. If not, and if you're so inclined, please try to get your votes in over the next week. Ashie62 18 OhSheaCanKC 18 Benjamin Grimm 18 TMF 18 G-Fafif 18 FK 4 Centerfield 1
