  1. 1984: Ryne Sandberg
  2. 1988: Darryl Strawberry?
  3. 1979: Keith Hernandez and Willie Stargell
  4. When I was an eight-year-old, in 1971 in Smithtown, this was the most precious item a kid could have: Getting one of these in a pack of baseball cards was like getting a Golden Ticket.
  5. Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. THANK HEAVEN Newsday, May 20, 2017. 6. We'll once again be taking a break for the weekend, but we have winners from the five polls that were posted last week. Each of these covers will advance to the second round and to the Sweet Sixteen:
  7. Lots of wild guesses here, but why not? There's no penalty for being wrong! 8. I know. As soon as I saw that Mickey was getting number 36, the first thought that came to my mind was "Jerry Koosman".
  9. Well, they're not really, but someone who doesn't think they're important shouldn't talk about them like they're an expert.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: It's an even more perfect headline for a game in which Matt Harvey is battered by the Brewers following a suspension for missing work due to a drinking binge. Good point!
  11. This poll is currently tied, between GOD OF BLUNDER and THORRIBLE. Would anyone care to take action to break the tie?
  12. HARVEY WALLBANGERS is a perfect headline for a game in which Matt Harvey is battered by the Brewers. I loved the callback to the 1982 Brewers.
  13. Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with that paragraph. It's not out of the question that the Mets might opt to go a little slow with Conforto and it doesn't dilute the good news at all. If they go a little slow and Conforto doesn't debut until April 15 it's still very good news.
  14. Joel Sherman wrote: Michael Conforto has received excellent medical updates from his surgeons and should be swinging a bat by late January, according to his representatives. Conforto, who had left shoulder surgery in September, is working out regularly and should be a full-go for spring training, at which point it will be up to the Mets to decide if they want to limit his at-bats and have him gradually build up and potentially even miss Opening Day.
  15. This is the third consecutive poll where all of the covers contain bad news! Happily, we'll see some good-news covers tomorrow.
  16. Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. HARVEY WALLBANGERS Newsday, May 13, 2017. THE JEURYS OUT! 17. So the Mets can, in theory, trade a particular player for, say, $2 million in bonus pool money?
  18. He's not required to make the minimum, is he?
  19. I'm not clear on that either. If what you say is true (and it might be) then the Mets would have a shot at Otani.
  20. We have a deal in place. If I plug Mets Hot Stove, SNY will plug Maja's reality show.
  21. Or play outfield, I guess.
  22. Ricco is going to be the guest on Mets Hot Stove on Thursday. I'm looking forward to hearing what he has to say.
  23. This has been such a long miserable season that I had pretty much forgotten all of the hullabaloo over Adriana Lima.
  24. Kristie Ackert today reports, briefly, that the Mets and Marlins talked this week, and implies that Dee Gordon was discussed. The two teams have decided that there's no deal to be made, at least not at the moment. The Marlins have more of a focus on trading Stanton and will turn their attention to Gordon at a later point.
  25. I guess the theme would be, if you can beat them, join them.
