  1. Yeah, I can't really think of too many examples where I felt Mickey pulled the starter extremely early. I can see Paul Sewald becoming a Pat Mahomes/Tom Gorman type, a "long reliever" which isn't something we've seen as much of in recent years. Gsellman or Lugo could do that too, but at the moment, Sewald seems to be the most likely.
  2. I definitely like that Mickey wants to get away from defined roles. I've always disliked those defined roles. That an "eighth-inning guy" somehow can't be asked to pitch in the seventh inning.
  3. SCHAEFER METS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Week ending March 31, 2018: Yoenis Cespedes, 3.43 points. Week ending April 7, 2018: Yoenis Cespedes, 3.67 points.
  4. I have the same concerns. This was apparently the plan going in, to rely move heavily on the bullpen. Mickey plans to be smart enough to find a way to do this without straining the bullpen. I'm skeptical. Monday's meltdown doesn't mean his plan won't work. Even the best plans sometimes lead to losses. It's really a question of how often that happens. So we'll see. I remain concerned and skeptical.
  5. In the 21st poll, the 1990 cover defeated the 1989 Edición Española by a vote of 13 to 6. ADVANCING TO ROUND TWO: ELIMINATED:
  6. Yes, that was Pedro's first year. And Beltran's too. Unlike in 2018, they didn't hesitate to use spring training uniforms on the yearbook cover. I agree that the 1975 cover is weird. That's the kind of photo that, in its kitsch, would lend charm to the inside pages of the yearbooks of that era. It's not a good fit for the cover, especially as 1974 was a relatively poor season for Seaver. Yeah, he struck out his 200 batters, but I'm sure he was unhappy with his 11-11 record and his career-high 3.20 ERA. I'm not sure which way I'll vote. I don't like montages, but that 1975 cover is a dud.
  7. Bumping to the new page. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Cast your vote!
  8. Today marks the closing of the 20th first-round poll, with the 1971 cover defeating 2009 by a vote of 14 to 5. ADVANCING TO ROUND TWO: ELIMINATED:
  9. This 1968 cover is my favorite, and it's the one cover that I know I'll never vote against, no matter the competition. It's also the first yearbook (I mean "year book") that I ever acquired as a back issue.
  10. Or some Rice-A-Roni.
  11. All three tabloids used the same photo on their back page. Newsday even used the title of this IGT as their back-page headline!
  12. The name is familiar to me. Did he generate some buzz during spring training with the Mets this year?
