  1. It's official: Newsday wrote: The Mets will move their radio home to WCBS (880-AM) starting in 2019 and running through at least 2025. Entercom, the parent company of WCBS -- as well as WFAN, the Yankees’ radio flagship -- made the long-expected announcement on Monday morning. The move ends a five-year run on WOR. It also means Mets personnel again will be able to appear as guests on WFAN.
  2. I would make my first order of business locking up Jake deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, and Zack Wheeler. Well, maybe not first order of business, but it would definitely be at or near the top of my offseason to-do list. All three might be a bit of a stretch, so I'd focus first on deGrom and Wheeler. Syndergaard has a little more runway before free agency kicks in.

  4. Vic Sage wrote: It would indeed be a shame because Carter was here for only 4.3 of his 19 career seasons, comprising 1 great year and 1 good one, and 2.3 shitty ones. He was a career Expo who contributed to a Mets WS team one year. This is hardly comparable to Wright. And if they treat him similarly, that would be inexcusable. I agree. I'm just about never in favor of retiring a number (and that includes Gary Carter's 8, which should be put back into circulation) but I'm totally on board with David Wright's 5.
  5. Since that thread doesn't include a post from me saying "Who's Mark Sanchez?" I have to assume that in 2010 I knew who he was.
  6. No, but it's worthwhile to know what is and isn't realistic.
  7. But you really do have to have a sense of the budget to know whether or not a pursuit of Machado is even realistic. I'd love it if the Mets made a serious effort to sign Machado, but I don't expect it. And maybe I'm wrong not to expect it. I hope so!
  8. Newsday says this could be official within a few days: The Mets could announce as early as Monday that they are leaving WOR (710 AM) after five seasons and moving their radio home to WCBS (880 AM) starting in 2019, a move that has been expected since early summer.
  9. I'm... not sure what that means!

  12. One that goes undetected, I guess. Is this a horror film? I haven't seen it yet, but I had the impression it was more sci-fi than horror.
  13. True, but they probably want their wording to match whatever paperwork may exist. If David retires, he won't get paid the $27 million he'd earn for 2019 and 2020. If he stays on the 60-day disabled list for the next two years, he'll get paid and the Mets will get reimbursed all (or some?) of his salary from the insurance. And the Mets would have one additional player at risk for a Rule-5 after this season and next.
  14. I blame Jaerock Lee. In case you forgot
  15. Are they actually waiting for the last day of the season? What if it rains?
  16. The New York Post wrote: Wright said his body’s reaction to minor league and rehab games leading up to this return were what led him finally to make the decision to retire for good. Asked if he’s retiring, he said: “Physically, the way I feel right now, and from what the docs told me, there’s not going to be any improvement. So I don’t see [playing full time again] as a possibility.”
  17. I think retiring a player's number should be an extremely rare thing, and I typically oppose most such suggestions. But not this one.
  18. Yes, it's the budget that's important, not necessarily the payroll. It's certainly possible for a team to be fortunate enough to win with a primarily young and cheap roster. But success is more likely when a team has the budget flexibility to add players or swallow bad contracts when necessary.

  20. It's still three first-place finishes in thirty years. 1988 hasn't dropped off the other end yet.
  21. Found it: METS INTERNSHIP: In February 1996, I went to Shea Stadium for an interview with Mets Public Relations Director, Jay Horwitz. I needed an internship for my communications major in The College of Staten Island, and interning for the Mets would be the perfect solution. I brought my resume, and a copy of the article that was written about me in Baseball Hobby News showing what an extreme Mets fan I was. Jay said, "Our interns come in seven days a week, twelve hours a day, eight months a year, and do not get any form of payment." I told Jay that my religion would not allow me to come in on Friday nights and Saturdays, and what my college professor in charge of internships for a long time said was the most classless act by an interviewer she's heard of, Jay got up, said goodbye and refused to talk to me anymore. I left his office and took a tour around the usually restricted areas of Shea. I first went to the "Old Timers' locker room," which was open. I then walked through the underground tunnel, into the visitor's bullpen. I then walked through the open fence onto the field, which was covered with snow. Linked by Willets Point in 2011 from this page: Jay Horwitz
  22. Centerfield wrote: I get that Horwitz is a pretty good guy. That feeling seems to be widely accepted. There was a post on this forum quite a while ago that might make us think otherwise. I don't remember the details too well, but it was a link to an article about someone who interned with the Mets, and Jay came across rather poorly in that.
