  1. I read an article in the Post that said that Stroman threw four simulated innings recently. Hope that means he'll be back before too long.
  2. I just realized what a good thread title this is! So what's up with the Marlins? Their ragtag team swept three from the Orioles the last few days. Did the Marlins slap together a decent team? Or are the Orioles really that hapless? This is a major opportunity for the Mets, and I hope they take advantage of it. If they can sweep the Marlins they'll be at .500, the division will be tightened up, and the Mets will be right in the heart of things. (And a .500 record is probably all that's necessary to make the playoffs.)
  3. Thank you to those who have voted in the last couple of days. This is the last call. Voting will close tomorrow morning, and the Schaefer Mets Players of the Month for July will be announced. You... just... can't... wait.

  5. Maybe they should give the awards by Division this year. Have an Eastern Division MVP, Cy Young, etc, and Central, and West. So Gimenez wouldn't be competing against Gingergaard (That's great! I have no idea who he is, but it's a great name!) but against rookies in the NL and AL East. The Mets aren't really sharing a league this year with the Dodgers and Giants and Cubs and Cardinals, but with the Yankees and Red Sox etc.
  6. Well, since he hasn't appeared in a game, I guess they won't miss him all that much. I had to look him up... He's a catcher. I think Rivera is on the IL, so we have two catchers remaining, Ramos and Nido?
  7. I know it's early in the season. After all, it's only August 6! But why not raise the question... Is it possible that we have a Rookie-of-the-Year candidate in Andrés Giménez? I have a feeling that even if everyone is healthy, as unlikely as that may be, Andrés will keep playing if he keeps producing. So let's assume he does that. Are there any obvious competitors that we'd have to worry about?
  8. =Centerfield post_id=42962 time=1596715951 user_id=65] I feel like Kathy Bates could do a good job on Payson.
  9. I nominate Walter Brennan for the part of Charles Dillon Stengel. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/fa/29/9b/fa299b3304b823dc46b7f21a822e44ea.jpg>
  10. I hope you're not referring to Joseph Stalin. Although that would be an interesting choice...

  12. Please try to get your votes in for the July games within the next 48 hours (more or less).
  13. Well, Brian Dozier didn't really make a strong case for more playing time yesterday. Hopefully Rosario can return soon and Gimenez can become the regular 2B.
  14. The modern version of the MVP was introduced in 1931, replacing the "League Awards", which stopped in 1929, according to Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_Most_Valuable_Player_Awardhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_Most_Valuable_Player_Award
  15. I think it's a pretty safe bet that three or four years from now, you'll be the only one here who remembers Ryan Cordell.
  16. Mr. Sandman (yes) bring us a dream Give him a pair of eyes with a "come-hither" gleam Give him a lonely heart like Pagliacci And lots of wavy hair like Liberace
  17. Today's pitching matchup doesn't look terribly promising, does it?

  19. 6:10 makes a lot of sense. More fans will be able to see the entire game and the players will have more time to visit nightclubs after the game. (Maybe that last part is less than ideal.)

  23. Jon Heyman wrote: At least a couple Cardinals did go to a Casino, as @TheRealJHair 1st suggested. MLB has since tightened its rule on leaving the team hotel from very strongly discouraged to not allowed. Cards Covid count going into today: 3 players, 4 staff Staying in the hotel shouldn't be that hard. I'm sure they're not staying in a Motel 6 or a Red Roof Inn.
  24. The Cedeno homer has been eclipsed by the Pendleton homer two years later.
