1. The decision may become more clear when we know who the opponent will be, and what kind of and how many left-handed pitchers they have.
2. I had no idea that Mychal Givens was a "back-dated trannie". Not that there's anything wrong with that.
3. The rotation for the Braves series is going to be deGrom then Scherzer then Bassitt, according to Anthony DiComo. This means that deGrom could be available to pitch the final game of the season in Queens against the Nationals on Wednesday, if the Mets need to win that game. (And if that happens, he wouldn't be available for the Wild Card series if the Mets were to end up there.)

5. The Mets can win the division with as few as 99 wins if they beat the Braves once and the Marlins then sweep the Braves next week. They can finish second with as many as 101 wins, under a few different scenarios. If they can get to 102, they win the division.

7. The Twins and the White Sox have been eliminated. Giants and Orioles still hanging in there. Brewers only a half game behind the Phillies. (Phillies hold the tie-breaker advantage.)

[TH]Playoff Seed[/th][TH]Current Team[/th][TH]Other Possibilities[/th]
8. He faltered against the Pirates too. I'm not panicky, but I'm concerned.
9. Two wins in Atlanta wouldn't clinch. It would leave the Mets with a two-game lead with three to play, and a Magic Number of 1. To win the division, the Braves would then have to sweep the Marlins and hope that Washington sweeps the Mets.
10. I'm concerned about deGrom. I'd hold him off until the third game. I'd go with Scherzer, Bassitt, deGrom in that order.
11. Yes. So that's bad news for Connecticut and Georgia.
12. 2022 marks the 5th time that the Mets have won 98 or more games in a season. The 98 wins in 1985 is the most that the Mets have ever won in a season in which they did not finish in first place. Most team wins in a season 1. 108 (1986) 2. 100 (1969, 1988) 4. 98 (1985, 2022) 6. 97 (1999, 2006) 8. 94 (2000) 9. 92 (1987) 10. 91 (1990) 11. 90 (1984, 2015)
13. Still three more regular-season games at Citi Field. October 3, 4, and 5 against Washington.
14. Massachusetts, the most difficult state to spell, was the 6th state to ratify the Constitution, on February 6, 1788. The Magic Number arrived in Massachusetts after a very brief layover in Maryland. https://designshop-6aa0.kxcdn.com/photos/usa-massachusetts-send-vintage-greeting-card-16545_55.jpg>
15. Edgy MD wrote: I think Drew Smith just secured his spot on the post-season roster, one way or another. I had forgotten, until I was reminded just the other day, that Drew Smith came to the Mets from Tampa Bay in exchange for Lucas Duda.
16. Two Very Happy Outcomes tonight: Mets win, Braves lose. That's all that matters anymore. Mets will begin their series in Atlanta with a one-game lead. They can win the East without any outside help by taking one game in Atlanta and then sweeping the Nationals at Citi Field. If they win two games in Atlanta their Magic Number will drop to 1, and the Braves would have to count on a double sweep in the final series of the season: Nationals over the Mets and Braves over the Marlins. 17. =Gwreck post_id=108880 time=1664372611 user_id=56] Mets are +1.5 over the Yankees. Too early to calculate the applicable tiebreaker (intradivison record).
18. =ashie62 post_id=108913 time=1664393763 user_id=90] Jesus used to be very wild
19. I get the impression that they considered and dismissed option 1. Option 2 is interesting.
20. Yes. All four Wild Card series are scheduled to be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 7 through 9. The Division Series begins on Tuesday the 11th.
21. Also, because Vientos is mobile and Volgelbach isn't.
22. Enuf with Ruf. Give Vientos the start.
23. Baseball Reference has the Braves with a 69.3% chance of winning the division, with a record of 101.4 and 60.6 and the Mets with a record of 100.8 and 61.2.
24. The Giants can still win 84 games, which would be one more than the Phillies' current total. They're on the brink, but still in it.
