I'm not a fan of covers with new Mets wearing old uniforms (the Derby winner should have a Mets jersey) and I don't like photo-shopped Mets unis but all of those are unavoidable here. Last year, a cover with Francisco Lindor in an Indians uniform (Newsday's FRANTASTIC!) unexpectedly made it all the way to the Final Four. In the first round it beat a cover with Billy Bean in a business suit, but it went on to beat Mets-uniformed covers of Marcus Stroman and Pete Alonso. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2021/brackets_2021_005.png>

I wonder if they would sign an infielder like Turner or Swanson and put him in center field? I remember how well that worked out with Juan Samuel.

Brian Ostrosser is one of only three Mets with three S's in their last name. The other two are Macky Sasser and Elmer Dessens. No Mets players have had four S's. The only person in the Ultimate Mets Database with four S's in his name is James Sandsness, who played in 67 games with the Single-A Salinas Mets in 1963 and 1964. "Single-A Salinas Mets" also has four S's, by the way. I hope these facts aren't too esoteric.

I came up with a hack to read Athletic articles for free. (I don't feel right sharing it publicly, PM me if you want to know what I did.) Tim Britton posted an article where he speculates how the Mets can get some offense. He obviously mentions Aaron Judge. Says Teoscar Hernández can be a trade candidate, but isn't sure that there's a deal that the Mets can put together for him. Also: Milwaukee's Hunter Renfroe and Baltimore's Anthony Santander trade on-base prowess for power and could probably be had in a trade this winter as they get more expensive in arbitration. Joey Gallo and Adam Duvall have tilted the scales too much toward power at the expense of any other offensive value. Mets could also consider Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts, Dansby Swanson, or Carlos Correa for second base, moving McNeil to the outfield. He mentions a bunch of other players who would make less of an impact, including Michael Conforto. Says reports indicate that Nolan Arenado is not likely to opt out of his contact with St. Louis.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if the Mets swung a big trade and brought in an outfielder and a starting pitcher. It would probably require them to dip into their prospects (maybe Baty would be included) and a couple of players from their 2022 big league roster. (Canha? Guillorme? Escobar?) I don't know... I'm not good at coming up with deals because I'm not familiar enough with what players on other teams might be available or what the needs of those other teams are. But I think anyone other than Alonso, Lindor, McNeil, or Scherzer might be traded.

2022 TABLOID COVER DERBY: YEAR EIGHT
Benjamin Grimm replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
PREVIOUSLY, ON THE TABLOID COVER DERBY... http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/previously_2015.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/previously_2016.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/previously_2017.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/previously_2018.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/previously_2019.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/previously_2020.png> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/previously_2021.png> -
Diaz and Nimmo are the two pending free agents that I'd most like to retain. That being said, if the Mets want to add another slugger to their lineup, the outfield is the most likely spot. (Catcher is another, but I'm not sure how much they should count on from Alvarez in his rookie season.) If they add an outfielder, then either Nimmo or Marte or Canha has to be displaced, and Nimmo is the one without a contract.

Does he have kids? Will the superior school districts be a factor?
