For Lute Barnes, I assume? I'd suggest retiring 19 for Brian Ostrosser, but I've never heard of him.

How about Tim Foli, Bruce Boisclair, Junior Ortiz, and Dwight Bernard while we're at it? I always appreciated the restraint the Mets showed when it came to retiring numbers. That's obviously gone out the window, but I'm sixty years old and beyond caring too much about such things.

Retired numbers should be strictly limited to individuals who make the Baseball Hall of Fame as a Met. You could maybe make an exception for a beloved player who played an entire career with the team.

I wouldn't have made this decision, but whatever.

Yes, of course they should listen. But it sounds like the Brewers weren't offering nearly enough. The fact that the Mets set a high price for Alonso would seem to indicate that they'd prefer to keep him. I very much hope he gets extended before he hits free agency.

Peterson has a 2.41 ERA over his last 33.2 innings, dating back to June 27. He just needs to start going deeper into games. Hopefully he'll be able to go five innings or more tonight.
