Benjamin Grimm

It's hard to believe he was born in 1985. When I hear that someone was a Mets fan as a kid, I tend to assume that they would have been rooting for Seaver, Koosman, Jones, and Agee, but Stearns is too young to even remember Hernandez, Carter, Strawberry, and Mookie. His youth would have been the Piazza and Alfonzo years.

I'm curious about what the division of duties is. What does the POBO do that the GM doesn't do? And vice versa? Negotiate trades? Negotiate contacts? Hire/fire front office personnel? The coaching staff? The farm system? The draft? Etc? Etc?

I hope this Stearns turns out to be a Good Dude for the Mets.

For White Sox .300 hitter, I tried typing "Joe Jackson" but it didn't recognize his name until I added the word "Shoeless".

I guessed Lamar Hoyt too. My first guess, so I was guaranteed a loss from the very beginning. I also guessed David Cone for the Royals, but remembered too late that I was faced with this once before and neither Cone nor Saberhagen would be correct, but Dennis Leonard would.

Lost on my second guess today, in the 200K column. I had Bob Gibson for the Cardinals, but when I advanced to the row for the Orioles, I was surprised to learn that Jim Palmer never struck out 200 batters in a season.

I missed twice on the Padres 40-save guy. Tried Goose Gossage and Rollie Fingers. Trevor Hoffman is too recent for me.

The grid appears to be down this morning. Maybe they need more bandwidth. 429: TOO_MANY_REQUESTS

=kcmets post_id=136873 time=1694015063 user_id=53] I wonder if Señor Grimm can run some kind of magical query to find out if (or how many times) the Mets have had four rookies in the lineup batting consecutively. I'd think it's rare, but I'm never wrong sometimes.

OK enough of you Sam Coonrod I wasn't aware of this, until I saw a headline in my Google news feed calling Coonrod a "controversial reliever": In 2020, at the height of Black Lives Matter protests throughout the country, Coonrod became a national storyline for refusing to participate in a "Moment of Unity" following the protests. During the pregame festivities, every member of the Dodgers and Giants roster and coaching staff took the field holding a piece of a black chord and knelt together before the playing of the national anthem. Most people stood for the playing of the song, but Coonrod was the only person not to hold the cord at all. When he explained his decision, he was very critical of the Black Lives Matter organization in his comments. "I'm a Christian, like I said, and I just can't get on board with a couple of things that I have read about Black Lives Matter," Coonrod said. "How they lean toward Marxism, and they've said some negative things about the nuclear family. I just can't get on board with that."

This is from Anthony DiComo's Mets Beat newsletter today: I wasn't aware that they used a different baseball at Triple-A than at Double-A. Why would that be? Wouldn't it make sense for MLB affiliated teams to use the same baseballs at all levels?

I'm firmly on the other side. Each time a team approaches 121 losses, I want them to get there.

My ninth Immaculate Grid, with a rarity score of 72. (My best score was a 5!) None of my choices were the post popular answer. My recollection that several members of the Big Red Machine ended up in Philadelphia helped me with this puzzle.
