  1. And a bag of chips!
  2. Knocking on wood, we've made it more than halfway through 2006 without losing anybody.
  3. Okay, I fixed that. Here's a page that has both Papelbon and MBTN: http://leaptoad.com/mets/opponent.php?PlayerCode=7213
  4. Meanwhile... Yikes! Jonathan Papelbon (and every other Mets player and opponent) shows up as a dead Met on this page: http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/necrology.php Something went wrong! Or else everybody died!
  5. I can't explain the Papelbon thing either. I tried Google and AltaVista to see if any Papelbon references are found on MBTN.net, and got nothing. I wonder which search engine led the searcher to your site? I also Googled Mackey Sasser. His UMDB page came up as the third choice on page 1, and the page listing all Mets catchers came up on the second page of results. The MBTN 1-10 page landed on the fourth page of results.
  6. I'm not too worried about losing David to free agency. I fully expect a deal to get done, unless some bonehead causes a rift between David and either the city or the front office. Fortunately, Dick Young is dead at the present time, so at least, he won't screw this up for us. On an unrelated note, further proof that David Wright is all that and a bag of chips: he's zooming up the charts in UMDB popularity. He's now all the way in 26th place, having passed a ton of Mets who had up to a five-year head start on him. He's bound to crack the top twenty before the end of the calendar year, if not before the end of the season.
  7. My daughter's too young for him, but I have a cousin who's 23 and single.
  8. I've seen better photos of Julia Stiles. That catcher behind her has a nasty groin injury!
  9. I think back then he was still a Cincinnati Reds fan, which was the team he rooted for as a kid. The Mets did get a lot of mention, but Dave never called himself a Mets fan, and he never fawned over them as he does the Yankees. I've been a big Letterman fan ever since the start of Late Night in 1982, and I've missed few shows. But I can't watch him interview a Yankee; I always fast-forward through those interviews. Letterman guests that I fast-forward: Any Yankee Tom Arnold Comedian George Miller (deceased) Howard Stern Billy Crystal (usually, but not always) Race car drivers (usually, but not always)
  10. Unfortunately, Dave is one of those misguided Yankee fans. He grew up in Indiana; most transplants seem to latch on to the Yankees. They don't know any better.
  11. WAY past my bedtime! On top of that, I'm so far behind on my TiVo'ed Daves (because of my vacation) I probably won't watch it for at least a week.
  12. According to my Late Show Newsletter David Wright of the New York Mets will be on Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday, July 12. Fire up your TiVo!
  13. I've said it here before, but to me, David Wright is our Cal Ripken. He's never reminded me of Steve Garvey; he's more of a Ripken. Hopefully I'll still be thinking that twenty years from now.
  14. He also needs 5.09 Schaefer points to capture the Pitcher of the Month award for June. Pressure is really on Tom Glavine tonight.
  15. It may be correct, but if it is it's probably a legacy of a pronounciation that's gone out of vogue. This is a grammatical rule that probably should be updated, but Don Fehr and the player's union would never go for it.
  16. I agree. Now (or soon) is the time for the Mets to address it. I just don't feel it's the time for me to worry about it.
  17. I'm not worrying about anything right now. I'm confident that the Mets will get to the playoffs. I'm not that confident that the Mets will go deep into the playoffs, but that's a worry for October. If they're on one of their hot streaks as they enter the playoffs, they'll find the magic to get to the World Series. And if they're on a cold spell, they'll make an early exit, something the Mets have never done in the postseason. But like I said, that's a worry for October. If anything's ailing Pedro right now, I'd give him a good seven-day (or more) rest over the All-Star break. I don't have blind trust in Omar. He's still the guy who traded Benson for Julio a few days after trading Seo. If he gets tradelust, he's as likely to make a bad one as a good one.

  19. The definition of Quality Start is 6 or more innings and 3 ER or fewer, right? Nine innings and 4 ER isn't, even though it's a better ERA than 6 and 3. That doesn't quite make sense, but I think that's the definition. Anyone know otherwise?
  20. Liz Taylor in Cleopatra?
  21. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/photopost/data/1029/4328norm01.jpg I was thinking I could churn out the 45-year numbers from the UMDB, but the problem with that is that it's often not clear who the Number 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 pitchers are. Even this year, Glavine got the Opening Day start, but I think he'd be considered the Number 2, and Pedro would be the 1. After that, things are really fuzzy. Trachsel is 3, I guess. But what numbers do you give Soler, Hernandez, Bannister, Maine, and Gonzalez?
  22. We gotta get David Wright to join our little group!

  24. Oooh, the one with the sexy nun!
  25. And the Boston fans showed Pedro lots of love during Tuesday's game. Nice to see. I hope we see more of the same when Pedro's on the mound tonight.
