  1. The nicest surprise is that there are so many players who have been nice surprises.
  2. I love what you've done with the place.
  3. I recognize the site of that last image, it's David Letterman's set in the Ed Sullivan Theater. I think the only time I've ever seen Natalie, other than on Dave's show, was her brief role in Cold Mountain.
  4. Backseats are always handy for that. But just wait until he's old enough to arch his back and squirm away from you. That's when diaper changing really starts to get fun!
  5. I used one of them once. I was lucky that it looked rather clean; I imagine that many of them aren't. We've changed diapers in a variety of places, including at the Alhambra in Spain, and in the White House visitor's center in Washington. Rather than count on those changing tables, it's often better to just find a spot where you can hide behind something. That can be difficult at Shea Stadium, though. Of course, in the old days you could have just taken the escalator up the the Upper Deck and found a sea of empty seats.
  6. Another thing that will make it difficult is that there's nowhere to put the baby down. You'll have to take turns holding him. At a baseball game, your baby will become one more item to juggle on your lap. And I know, based on my own personal history, is if I tried to take a baby to a baseball game, the baby would certainly puke. Not just spit up, but a big, embarrassing, messy, smelly, puke. If you take him to the game and manage to stay from the first out to the last, I would suggest that we all chip in and buy you a Croix de Candlestick on eBay.
  7. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Pardon me for my vast ignorance, but how insane is it to take a 5-week old to a baseball game? Very! I doubt you'll want to stay there for three and a half hours. There's bound to be fussiness, and diaper changes. And if he's not on formula, there's issues with keeping milk cold.
  8. As should those of us fortunate enough to be fathers.
  9. I echo the condolences. This is the first I've heard of site visitors actually connecting because of things posted to the UMDB. It had never occurred to me that something like that would happen. I'm glad to have helped you, albeit inadvertently, to find a new friend.
  10. Maybe this link needs to be featured more prominently. I was a little surprised that Namor didn't know about it: Crane Pool Forum Archived Threads
  11. I'm okay with that. But if Floyd doesn't get it going, we do have another option. I wonder if Lastings will be with the Mets on August 31. I'd like him to be.
  12. I haven't advocated his benching, but I floated it as a possibility.
  13. If the Mets still look playoff bound at the deadline, though, you may have to consider passing up the chance to deal him for prospects. Even if Cliff is just an expensive role player, if he can deliver a key pinch hit in a post season game, he's worth keeping, if the roster will allow it. Teams generally add veterans for a playoff run, they don't deal them for prospects.
  14. I voted keep him as well. The roster dyamics might get tricky, though. Let's assume Nady is healthy, and it's August 30. How do you set up your roster for the postseason? Is Floyd on it? I'd want him to be, but who do you drop to make that happen? Probably Heath Bell, I'd guess.
  15. That proves that Mr. Zero is a Mort Walker fan! I think. Let's all try to guess his first name. Absolute? Ground? I wish Richard Dawson was here. "Blank Zero."
  16. I'm thinking of Zero from Beetle Bailey. Hey! Tomorrow's Wednesday! We get to see Miss Buxley!
  17. Wow, I had forgotten that Don Gullet was a Yankee. When I first read your post, I thought you had the year and team wrong, and that it must have been Gullet pitching against the Yankees in 1976.
  18. I think A may be true. Not convinced yet of B.
  19. I don't understand anything anymore.
  20. Fun movie, but not as good as the second one. My expectations had been lowered, so I can't say I was disappointed. But following X-Men 2, I was hoping for, and expecting, a better movie than this one was.
  21. If Beltran is seen touching it he may have to call a Piazza-style press conference.
  22. The conventional wisdom this spring was that the pressure was off Beltran this year. I never bought that. As I'm sure I said in some other thread, the pressure was ON, big time. Another bad year from Beltran and his signing becomes a bust, and he's an albatross for another five years after this one. NOW the pressure is off, at least for the time being. He's been getting it done this year, and I hope his May Schaefer win is the first of many.
  23. I don't know you, so I can't judge. But if you are a horrible person, it's probably not because of the brown Mets shirt. I actually own (and have often worn) one of the black caps with the blue brim. I think they look okay, and it would be okay if the Mets wore them once a week or so. But the blue cap is the real cap, and the best cap. They should be wearing it the vast majority of the time. I hate the all-black cap, though. And I hate the black jerseys, especially when worn for home games. There's no place for either of them.
  24. I defy anyone to read all 198 of those. It's nice that the Internet makes it easy for people to self-publish stuff. The downside is that you get volumes of crap like the above.
  25. Another way to put it would be that it's the same thing that's wrong with green meat, brown bananas, and yellow snow.
