  2. I hadn't realized that we were coming up on the 50th anniversary of the Dodgers and Giants abandoning New York. For some reason, those California teams think it's something to celebrate.
  3. They're not the Devil Rays anymore:
  4. So we're down to only 88 possible World Series matchups. The Yankees look to be the only AL team from last year's postseason to return this year. If the Mets make it to the World Series, they'll either get a repeat opponent in the Red Sox or Yankees, or we'll see a brand new opponent in the Indians or Angels. (I perfer Cleveland.)
  5. Yeah, Hernandez' injury pretty much settles the Mets playoff rotation, barring any further injuries. If Maine doesn't get his shit together, could Pelfrey displace him? I doubt it. Willie gave Oliver Perez playoff starts last year, and at that point Perez had almost exclusively sucked. I hope they don't end up with another Cliff Floyd situation this year, where they put an injured guy on the playoff roster and find that they can't really use him. Some candidates for that slot are Alou, Hernandez, and Lo Duca.
  6. He's Hollywood's favorite Japanese actor. He was in The Last Samurai and Letters from Iwo Jima.
  7. Two (of many) possible scenarios: If the Mets take three of four from the Marlins and the Phillies split with the Nationals, the magic number is down to 4 with 7 games to play. (6 for the Phillies.) The Mets would then have the luxury of being able to go 2-5 and the Phillies would need to go 5-1 to force a tie. If the Mets split with Florida and the Phillies take three of four in Washington, then the magic number is still down to 6. The Mets going 2-5 would require the Phillies to go 3-3 to force a tie. (2 and 5 is a lot more scary in this scenario.) However, the Mets going 4-3 would force the Phillies to go 5-1 for the tie.
  8. Beating the Mets was the largest of the three upsets.
  9. Thanks bfmc1. Meanwhile, voting for Tuesday night's miserable loss will close on Friday morning: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7404
  10. My outlook is so much brighter this morning, especially once I learned of the Phillies' loss last night! Incidentally, when pasting box scores this morning I discovered that Justin Maxwell is the first Mets opponent ever with the last name of Maxwell. Strange that it took 46 years for them to play against a Maxwell.

  12. You didn't tap anyone's foot or wave your palm, did you? That's really taboo.
  13. Big improvement today. We gained back ten points towards the division title, but lost some wild card points. With the Padres also winning, the Phillies odds dropped dramatically. 15. And in St. Louis, it's still 1 to 1 heading into the bottom of the 8th.

  18. Such a strange, unfamiliar feeling this is! A Cardinal victory would really put a spring in my step. Go Redbirds!
  19. Castillo must have forgotten how many outs there were. He threw home (in vain) instead of to first to complete the DP. 4-3 Mets after 5.

  21. Was that from when the Mets were the "Mercury Daisies"?
