  1. Boone caught stealing. That erases the hit, doesn't it?
  2. It's Namor's fault! A complete-game shutout is about as rare as a no-hitter these days, so let's root for that. I want that first Mets no-hitter to be in Game 7 of the 2008 World Series, in the final game ever played at Shea! THAT would be special.
  3. Single to right. End of dream.
  4. Keith's on camera heckling a hot-dog vendor for the "outrageous" prices.
  5. Delgado fans for the third out. If Pelfrey gets through this next inning without giving up a hit, Willie HAS to let him take his turn at the plate! Even if it's two out nobody on. He HAS to!
  6. Howie Rose is in the "booth." His favorite Shea memory is Seaver's imperfect game in 1969.
  7. I have to say, I've grown to like that the Mets have never had a no-hitter. I am rooting for this to happen, but I think the first Mets no-hitter, if it ever happens, should be quirky or weird in some way. Beltran and Church are out. Delgado batting in the sixth.
  8. Strikeout ends the top of the sixth! Nine outs to go! (Assuming, of course, that the Mets score a run. Come on, guys!)
  9. metirish wrote: Chrissake , am I going to miss a Mets no-hitter ? You might! Pelfrey now has two outs in the sixth. There hasn't been a no-hitter at Shea since Bob Moose! (Shamsky says he made the last out.)
  10. Wright pops it up. Scoreless through 5.
  11. With two out and Castillo batting, Anderson swipes second. Castillo, by not running hard earlier, has cost the Mets a run. (He could have scored on that dropped fly ball earlier.) Castillo walks as I'm typing this. Cue David Wright...
  12. Yeah, but I'M working on a scoreless no-hitter!
  13. I don't think I would have recognized Art Shamsky if he bit me on the ankle. (And he better not!) He tells a story about pinch-hitting for Frank Robinson in Cincinnati as Pelfrey takes a third strike. Jose batting.
  14. Leadoff single for Marlon Anderson. Hopefully Pelfrey bunts him over successfully and sets up that run that he'll need.
  15. I don't usually participate in IGT's, and I guess that's a good thing, because when I'm here everyone else stays mostly silent! Art Shamsky has the headphone on and is chatting with the guys.
  16. The injury to the clown isn't mortal, as Pelfrey gets through five and is now more than half-way to his no-hitter. Mets need to get a run or two for him. (I don't post on other boards, but if I did I'd mention there, but not here, that the best way to win a game is to score more runs than your opponent. I hope that doesn't make me sound pessimistic.)
  17. Weird. ]The one Spring Training matter that carried into the season was the mouthpiece. Pelfrey had begun using it in college as a means of camouflaging his pitchers. He had been tipping his pitches by sticking out his tongue. The mouthpiece stopped that until this spring, when teammates told him he was tipping his pitches by chewing the mouthpiece on fastballs, but not breaking balls. You probably don't want him thinking about his tongue when he's pitching!
  18. Gary mentions the no-hitter on the air, and Keith says, "You just shot the clown!"
  19. Ed: "Although I had some problems with Duke 'Schneider' he was helpful to me..." No follow-up question on what those problems might have been.
  20. Ed says he gave up his number 21 to Warren Spahn and didn't get any compensation from Spahn for it. Switched to 7 because the Mets were giving infielders the low numbers, and Ed picked 7 because he was a Mickey Mantle fan.
  21. He's pitched four innings, and Pelfrey has a no-hitter going.
  22. Kranepool wants to get on the steroids so he can resume his career.
  23. This is his second start without the mouthpiece. What was the story on that thing? My guess is they were afraid he'd bite off his tongue.
  24. Kranepool thinks he was still with the Mets in 1980. It's strange that I know more about his tenure than he does.
  25. Ed Kranepool will put on the headphones for the bottom of the third. I hope he gets through his visit without suing anybody.
