  1. I read in the Daily News this morning that they're considering Vargas on three days rest for the Saturday start.
  2. Glavine's coasting now. He's retired eleven in a row.
  3. How that came up: 1. Talking about Glavine's first years with the Mets. 2. Led to talk about Art Howe. 3. Comment that Howe had a "Barry Lyons hairline."
  4. Ron Darling reveals that Barry Lyons' nickname was "Mattress Head."
  5. Maybe. It would have been close, though. The ball was hit hard and scooped up pretty quickly. Had he gotten the green light and been thrown out, we'd be obsessing over Alomar's recklessness.
  6. Braves take the lead on a series of singles in the third. Maine's throwing a lot of pitches today. Doesn't look like he'll go too deep into the game.
  7. AND very cute! (How old is he now?) Now, who's that guy with the scary voice on The Wheelhouse? Is he for real?
  8. Same here. Meanwhile, Teixiera singles home the tying run with two out.
  9. Nice heads-up play by Reyes. He gets a ground ball, Escobar heads for third, Reyes throws to Wright instead of to Delgado and gets the out.
  10. Escobar leads off with a double. Quickly ends any fear of getting a no-hitter.
  11. Deep fly to right, but caught short of the warning track. End of inning, 1-0 Mets.
  12. Alou hits a hard line drive right at Chipper. It's up to Delgado now.
  13. Single by Wright, walk to Beltran, single by Church. Bases loaded for Alou with one out.
  14. It's like seeing Bud Harrelson hit a home run!
  15. Black caps and jerseys again today.
  16. What boggled my mind, when I discovered it, is that there are TWO different contemporary players named Abraham Nunez.
  17. Willie's on SNY RIGHT NOW saying his comments were "tongue in cheek."
  18. I never really felt this way before, but instant reply does make sense for these kinds of plays. Based on the few incidents we're aware of this season, having the umpires assemble and discuss the call doesn't lead to the right result.
  19. If the Mets beat Glavine today, will that be seen as proof that Glavine is really a Met at heart?
  20. I don't even remember an exciting August run. I wonder, am I growing forgetful? Or was I not all that excited?
  21. I think it would be helpful if they'd win 20 out of 25. (But I don't want to get slammed for being pessimistic!)
  22. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: That 5.41 has to be the highest one-game score of the year, no? Yes, it is. Santana got a 5.08 on April 6, and Maine got a 5.17 on May 7. Those are the only two previous games where a player got 5 or more points.
