A hold is a save opportunity in which you don't finish the game, but also don't give up the lead.

Frayed Knot wrote: Oh, and Joba to the 15-Day DL (at least) My daughter, 7, got a big kick out of the Daily News headline about Joba. It said that he has an appointment with "Dr. Doom." I received a free promotional copy of his book last year, but I can't bring myself to read a book that's titled "Everything Happens For A Reason."

Except that Tug is dead at the present time.
-
There's no way I'd pull a pitcher for walking a leadoff batter with a four-run lead. That smells like panic, and it's what, to me, was the last straw with Willie Randolph when he did it with Feliciano against Florida last September.
-
I'm not in the mood to watch this game tonight. I'll probably tune in later though. Nick Hundley, catcher? Any relation to Todd and Randy?
-
What a wimp. Why doesn't he just throw right-handed until his left arm heals? For the money he's making, he should be able to throw with both arms! And if he pitches righty, he can't be any worse than he has been!
-
Hey, welcome back Iubby. You haven't been around here much lately!
-
It's really encouraging how the Mets are continually downgrading their roster for the pennant race.
-
That's for a pair of seats. Shea has about 56,000 seats, or about 28,000 pairs of seats. If they sell out at their asking price, they'll net a smooth $24,052,000. Not too shabby. I wish I could sell my old furniture for that much.
-
PRAA? Jeez, I feel so out of it. I only understand about half the statistical references anymore.
-
Actually, I should add that I do already have seats from Shea Stadium. They're fragments of the original wooden seats. When they were removed and replaced with the plastic, they were left in a pile at the bottom of the exit ramps. I picked up a couple of pieces and so did my friends. I think mine have moved around with me a couple of times and are in the basement of my house. Since I already have part of Shea Stadium, a part that dates to 1964, I can sit out the upcoming ripoff frenzy.
-
That does it. I've now lost any hope that I might be able to afford to buy the Mets dugout. Maybe I'll get a bathroom faucet or something.
-
I was there twice. In 1984 and 1985. The 1984 visit was because I was young and foolish. I was "curious." In 1985, it was to see Tom Seaver win his 300th game. As I said recently in another thread, Yankee Stadium back then wasn't loaded with all the talk of "aura" and "mystique." It was just a venue where a hated team played. Now, there's no way I'd ever set foot in either the current or the new Yankee Stadium. It's the Bronx version of Osama bin Laden's mosque.
-
Also, a guy who helps you in September can be of value, even if he won't be eligible for the post-season roster.
-
John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: My list is short and includes 6 dead stadiums. You've got 16 ballparks there. I woudn't call that a short list. For the first 20 years of my life, my list had one stadium on it. (Shea, of course.) Now THAT was a short list! Me, I'll probably add Citi Field and Nationals Park in the next few years, but beyond that I probably won't add any more unless I happen to be in California or Phoenix or Denver at the same time the Mets are.

SCHAEFER PLAYERS OF THE MONTH FOR JULY 2008

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he's not activated by August 31, he won't be pitching for anyone in October.

SCHAEFER PLAYERS OF THE MONTH FOR JULY 2008
Benjamin Grimm replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
="Benjamin Grimm":3ru11s24]="Elster88":3ru11s24]Looking just at the numbers, Heilman over Wags doesn't make sense either. I haven't been voting enough either.[/quote:3ru11s24] I think in this case quantity triumphed over quality. Heilman pitched in four games more than Wagner did. He earned points in 12 different games, earning more than 1 point on July 9, 11, and 29. Wagner earned points in 10 games, and the only one in which he earned a full point or more was July 26, when he pitched 2 innings and got no decision. In his one-inning saves, he earned his most points, 0.91, on July 11 and as little as 0.46 on July 23.[/quote:3ru11s24] As for the guys who finished ahead of Tatis, three of them were starting pitchers: Mike Pelfrey, in five starts, earned 5.45, 5.04, 4.64, 4.38, and 1.04 points. Oliver Perez had five starts and earned 4.96, 3.84, 3.5, 3.44 , and 2.42 points. Johan Santana, in four starts, earned 5.16, 4.75, 4.31, and 2.91 points.
