  1. I think I heard that it floated away.
  2. Not Chris Jones. Not David Wright. Piazza did it four times. Kingman, Hojo, and Strawberry did it three times each. Beltran did it twice. One player still missing, one of the guys who reached 30 twice.
  3. I don't suspect that this will be too hard, but I'll post it anyway. Carlos Delgado the other day became just the seventh Met to hit 30 or more home runs in multiple seasons. Of the other six, one guy did it four times, three guys did it thrice, and two have done it twice. Name those Mets.
  4. Voting for Wednesday night's win in Philadelphia will close some time over the weekend: Schaefer POTG 08/27/08 Mets 6, Philadelphia 3

  6. Giambi singles home the winning run. He's the Roach Motel Player of the Game, I guess. Oh well. Hopefully the Twins and Rays both win later today. (And the Cubs too, of course!)
  7. Looks like the Yanks have bases loaded with one out in the ninth, Giambi batting.
  8. A decided minority, I'd guess. I have a vague sense of what it is, but if you give me somebody's number I wouldn't have much of an idea of whether it was good, bad, or somewhere in between.
  9. We're now at eight voters for Tuesday's loss to the Phillies, which is a more reasonable number. Voting will remain open for another 24 hours (give or take an hour or two) and will close on Friday afternoon. Schaefer POTG 08/26/08 Philadelphia 8, Mets 7, 13 innings Look for the Players of the Month announcement some time in the middle of next week.
  10. Two years ago, I started the magic number countdown on May 6, when it was at 130. That's how confident I was then. http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/2900/f1_t2911.shtml

  15. We've seen how Elias has an attitude that those of us who want accuracy in our statistics are a little daft.
  16. And when was there first a concept of a single "MLB"? My initial thought would be around 1920 or 1921 when the two leagues agreed to have a single Commissioner.
  17. I think we knew he was iffy the rest of the way.
  18. That is quite a bit different.
  19. Found this on MSNBC.com: ]Yankees Pavano moving to Mets Carl Pavano has had a crummy four years with the Yankees and that could be coming to an end incredibly soon. Word is the Yanks put him on waivers after he won the August 23 game against Baltimore a high spot in his lousy Bronx career and the Mets, in the midst of an intense division race with the Phillies and Marlins, could end up picking up Pavano, especially since John Maine is likely done for the year. The sticking point is supposedly how much of the $3.78 million left on Pavano's contract the folks in the House that Ruth Built will pay. (New York Post)
  20. AND he should drive an Edge. I haven't seen an SNY telecast in almost three weeks now. Has that commercial resurfaced? Or have we managed to kill it off?
  21. Yankees' tragic number is 21 for the division, 24 for the Wild Card.
  22. Delgado 4 Santana 3 Stokes 1 Murphy 1 Schneider 1
  23. I'll gladly put my MVP support to whoever puts the Mets on his back and carries them through September.
  24. I so want them to be mathematically eliminated by the time they play that final game at Yankee Stadium 2.
  25. There's nothing wrong with noting the magic number. It's a yardstick that tells us what needs to be done. I just don't think it should have the feel of a countdown, as if a clinching was inevitable.
