  1. Randy Myers?
  2. The Mets have played six games (winning four of them) since I last posted an update in this thread. Here's where we're at now: Average wins by position in NL East: 91.9 87.1 82.5 78.1 59.8 91.9 NL East W L Pct3 Avg W Avg L Champions Wild Card Playoffs 1D Change 7D Change Mets 57 48 .557 90.5 71.5 64.88740 6.90296 71.79036 5.13699 13.10450 Phillies 56 49 .527 87.3 74.7 27.72262 10.59879 38.32140 2.94875 -5.41568 Marlins 55 50 .472 81.8 80.2 5.23053 1.90949 7.14002 -2.26021 -2.74815 Braves 49 55 .524 80.0 82.0 2.15945 1.01150 3.17094 -1.65685 -0.62902 Nationals 38 67 .390 59.8 102.2 .00000 .00000 .00000 .00000 .00000 The Mets' postseason odds have taken a nice jump, partially at the expense of the Phillies. Marlins have pretty much held steady. (Hopefully the next three days will knock the Marlins back a bit.) Their numbers are surprisingly low, considering how close they are to the division lead. Milwaukee is still projected to be the Wild Card, but the Arizona has reclaimed the top spot in the NL West from the Dodgers. Cubs still project to the best record in the league, so the Mets' projected first-round opponent remains the Brewers. In the AL, the Red Sox are now favored by BP to win the East, and the Rays are now the leader for the Wild Card. First round ALCS would be Red Sox/White Sox and Angels/Rays. (Too bad Tampa Bay changed its name; we'd have Sox vs. Sox and Angels vs. Devils.)
  3. How do they define runs created for the RC27 formula? Is it the old (R + RBI) - HR? Or is it something more complex?
  4. Voting for the Thursday afternoon's win over the Phillies at Shea will close on Tuesday morning. Schaefer POTG 7/24/08 - Mets 3, Phillies 1 I'll post the official announcement tomorrow, but all three games against the Cardinals will close on Wednesday. Saturday's and Sunday's games, at the moment, are pretty light on votes.
  5. ="Valadius"]This may be the only picture we get of Brandon Knight in a Mets uniform: Wow, thanks. That's almost perfectly UMDB proportioned too. (I had found some other photos but none of them were good enough. I'll be using this one.)
  6. She could have twenty years of fandom behind her. That sounds longtime to me. I was certainly a long-time fan when I was 30.

  9. I don't give a damn how he pitches during the Olympics. I only care how he pitches in Flushing today.
  10. I'm setting a goal for Brandon Knight: Have a better game than Brett Hinchliffe did.
  11. With the Phillies and the Marlins having already won, I'm ready to chalk this us as a bad day. On a positive note, if the Mets do win this one, it will be especially inspiring.
  12. I hope I don't live long enough to see that rule trickle up to the major leagues.
  13. And that's a final in Philly: Phils win 10-9. Sheesh.
  14. And look who's pitching for the Braves: Mike Hampton!
  15. The Phillies jumped out to a 3-run lead today, but Hamels has given up six so far in the fourth; Braves still batting with two on and one out. Meanwhile, Marlins defeat Cubs in 12 innings.
  16. David Lennon in Newsday wrote: The Mets' strategy of waiting until the final minutes of next Thursday's 4 p.m. trade deadline to secure an outfielder seemed like a good plan 24 hours ago. Now? Not so much. The Pirates shipped Xavier Nady -- and lefty reliever Damaso Marte! -- to the Yankees late Friday for a total of four prospects. And in the past few hours, the Indians and Dodgers agreed on a deal that sent Casey Blake to LA for two minor-leaguers. Believe it or not, the Mets weren't too high on either Nady or Marte, or so they were saying after Friday's impressive 7-2 win over the Cardinals. As for Blake, it appears that Cleveland got a pair of decent prospects in return, and probably better than what the Mets had on the table. raul.jpg Could the Mariners' Raul Ibanez be next? He seems like the guy the Mets have been targeting all along, as we mention in this morning's Newsday, so don't be surprised if they swing a deal for him in the very near future. At this rate, the Mets really can't afford to be patient much longer.
  17. I just saw it; very entertaining! (I liked it much better than Batman Begins, which struck me as a little dry.) When Heath Ledger said, "You complete me" I thought it was a Brokeback reference and I got a kick out of it. It wasn't until later that I realized it was a Jerry Maguire reference. Oh well. Brokeback was something like, "I can't quit you."
  18. Unless he makes the 2009 starting rotation.

  20. This is stirring memories of a young Doc Gooden. I'm trying to remember, but can't: How aware were we of Doc in 1983? We all followed Strawberry's ascent through the farm system, but Gooden got here so quickly I can't remember when we first saw him coming.
  21. And I suppose Brandon Knight will today become one of the sons of, I dunno, Gene Woodling?
  22. According to the Daily News, Jose Reyes got married at City Hall yesterday.

  24. It just takes one manager who dares to be different, and then succeeds. We're finally seeing a pitch-count backlash. I'm not predicting that pitch counts will ever go away; I actually do think they're a valuable thing to measure. But hopefully somebody soon will start using them in a less rigid way.
  25. ...is just six days away. My guess is that the Mets won't make a significant deal. But if they do, they'll pay dearly for either Bay or Nady.
