  1. I don't think the Mets version is bad at all. I like the shade of grey. Purple is an interesting variation. I think the bridge on the cap is weird, but otherwise I'm okay with it. But speaking of colors, I remember when there were uniform standards that restricted players to only wearing gear that's a team color. It's why Tsuyoshi Shinjo had to wear an orange protector instead of his trademark red that he wore in Japan. But that obviously changed at some point. Manny Machado was wearing pink sleeves under his Padres jersey this weekend. Harrison Bader wears lavender. I see green shoes and yellow shoes. When did this change? (P.S.: I don't like the white sleeves that some Mets, including Nimmo and Alvarez, have been wearing. I would prefer if Mets players stuck with wearing blue, and perhaps orange.)
  2. It looks like there's going to be a bit of a Schaefer hiatus for the next week or so. I'm flying to California tomorrow for a vacation that will extend through next week. I promised my employer that I would bring my laptop, in case of emergency. So it's possible that I'll paste some box scores (thereby enabling Schaefer voting) if I get a spare moment here or there, and if I'm so motivated. But maybe not. Please take this opportunity to catch up on the games that have been played so far, and rest assured that the games from this week and next will be available for voting eventually. LFGM! Hopefully this trip will jumpstart the Mets like my 2015 visit to Peru did.
  3. The Yankees are very uptight about their "traditions" and the uniform is part of that. The refusal to participate in City Connect is, I'm sure, related to their ongoing refusal to put names on the backs of their uniforms. It's a bit ironic when you consider that they were the team to introduce uniform numbers about a century ago.

  7. Mets are only 2 games out of the Wild Card, but they still need to pass seven teams. The good news is that there's no imminent danger of anyone passing the Mets. They're 8 games ahead of the next team, the Rockies.
  8. Padres demonstrating that a memorial patch doesn't have to be on the sleeve.

  10. That's what I was saying. (I may not have made it clear.) The Scherzer/Verlander deals were about getting prospects. The trades of guys like Walker and Granderson in 2017 were about salary relief.
  11. =Gwreck post_id=159167 time=1718390533 user_id=56] This is what happens when you have players on expiring contracts who are on the wrong side of 30.
  12. Maybe it's time to call him F-lad? Is that any better?
  13. In 2017, the Mets traded five veteran players and got back one who would turn out to provide any measurable value: July 27, 2017 New York Mets traded Lucas Duda to the Tampa Bay Rays for Drew Smith. July 31, 2017 New York Mets traded Addison Reed to the Boston Red Sox for Jamie Callahan, Gerson Bautista and Stephen Nogosek. August 9, 2017 New York Mets traded Jay Bruce to the Cleveland Indians for Ryder Ryan. August 12, 2017 New York Mets traded Neil Walker to the Milwaukee Brewers for Eric Hanhold. August 19, 2017 New York Mets traded Curtis Granderson to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Jacob Rhame.
  14. I do have hopes for the guys they got for Scherzer and Verlander. But the vibe I'm getting is that the Mets may get a blue-chip prospect for Severino, but not likely for anyone else. So keep these guys. Let's win as many games as possible and hope things fall into place.
  15. I got a nice low score of 24. Mets/Cubs: Jim Hickman 2% Mets/2000 hits: Eddie Murray 2% Mets/Pitcher: Dean Chance 0.04% Dodgers/Cubs: Rick Monday 5% Dodgers/2000 hits: Duke Snider 7% Dodgers/Pitcher: Jesse Orosco 0.4% Orioles/Cubs: Milt Pappas 3% Orioles/2000 hits: Reggie Jackson 2% Orioles/Pitcher: Dave McNally 1%
  16. Pet peeve: When people say Bobby returned to the dugout "disguised as Groucho Marx". That's pretty far from the truth.
  17. I definitely prefer them not to sell.

  20. I recall when we got metirish back, someone tried to bring back seawolf and he refused the invitation. Some people drift away, and some deliberately leave because of the toxicity that flares up around here from time to time.
  21. That surprised me too!
