Well, you can argue that the team we really need to derail is the Padres, because they're currently holding the third wild card, with a record of 27-26, four games ahead of the Mets.

Last year, a pitcher was Player of the Week seven times. Twice each for Scherzer, Verlander, and Senga, and once for Butto.

I think there may be some comings and goings of relief pitchers, but that's pretty much a constant thing anyway. Maybe I'd send Stewart to Syracuse in exchange for Jose Iglesias. (Or Julio Iglesias, if he's available.) I know it makes us more right-handed and less left-handed, but I think I'm okay with that.

I'd rather keep Taylor than Stewart (both last names of characters played by Charlton Heston, by the way). Stewart has options, but he also has the advantage of being left handed.

I'm definitely not worked up. I hope they win as many games as they can. There's still a chance they can make the watered-down postseason. If they do, great, if they don't, then it's just another year as a Mets fan.

I'd like to think that they're as good as they were for a couple of weeks in April, but it's really not looking that way. But since mediocre teams can make the playoffs, and there are still almost 120 games remaining, the Mets may still turn out to be mediocre enough to qualify. Maybe they'll start to play better after a while, but they very well might not. All we can do is wait and see.

Who would replace him, at least until Alvarez returns?

I've done that too. Often when I see a Tampa Bay logo on the grid. My go-to Oriole/Tiger is Ray Knight.

I got everything except the middle square today. I couldn't think of a Diamondback who stole 30 bases. I made a pretty good guess, though: Steve Finley. He stole 30 or more three times in his career, twice as an Astro and once as a Padre, but the most he ever stole for Arizona was 16. Only seven players have stolen 30 or more for Arizona, and I never ever ever would have guessed any of them.

=Centerfield post_id=156157 time=1716384904 user_id=65] I haven't been following the rotation enough but I can't understand why it was necessary to start Houser when we've recently added Scott and Megill to the rotation and haven't lost any starters.

Oh, Houser is doomed. I'm less certain about Taylor.

It is his first return to Cleveland, however. The Mets haven't played there since 2016. And note how the Indians (as they had been known) didn't come to Queens at all between 2004 and 2019. https://leaptoad.com/mets/wl_opponent_graph.php?team=43>

Maybe it should be Raley. Since he can't pitch, he can't give up any three-run homers.

It's 2019 again for Edwin Diaz.
