  2. That would be better, wouldn't it?
  3. I'd like to think that Parnell and Holt are the future of the Mets bullpen.
  4. It shows up in the Italian version of Wikipedia on the Fascist Slogans page. (Slogan fascisti) Google translates it as "Barcollo but not give up!"
  5. It's the stock symbol for Bimini Capital Management, Inc. Bimini Capital Management, Inc. (OTCBB: BMNM) is a real estate investment trust (REIT) that invests primarily in, but is not limited to, residential mortgage-related securities issued by the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) and the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae). Our objective is to earn returns on the spread between the yield on our assets and our costs, including the interest expense on the funds we borrow. Bimini Capital Management, Inc. is headquartered in Vero Beach, Fla. I think they also make catcher's equipment.

Thanks.

  10. Triple A has become a warehouse for has-beens and going-nowhere players. Double A seems to be where it's at. It wasn't always that way, but for at least a decade or more, real prospects rarely stay for long at AAA.
  11. I seem to remember them playing "Kool and the Gang" after wins in the 1980's. I think that was playing after Game 6, but I'm not sure. When I hear that song though (which is seldom anymore) I do flash back to Mookie and Buckner, although I may be conflating.

  13. Voting for the first two games (Monday night and Tuesday night) of the recent home sweep of the Nationals will close on Friday. If you haven't voted yet, and plan to do so, please get your points posted today. And LeiterWagner's votes for Tuesday's game remain in deadly peril. 17. Gary Cohen was saying something similar last night. He implied that the young players on the team are in awe of Sheffield and his accomplishments. Sheffield was a shot in the dark for the Mets that has paid off very well so far. Just a few weeks ago I remember some of us were calling for the Mets to end the Sheffield experiment when he was hitting around .150. (I wasn't one of those people, but I must admit that I didn't disagree with them either.)
  18. They should just coat the Subway sign with really thick glue. That way, if a ball hits it, it will stick there. And the stuck homers would accumulate over the years, and we'd be able to point to them and say, look, that's the one that Beltran hit in the 2009 World Series!
  19. And remember, it was the White Sox who almost closed a deal for Peavy. They seem to be big players in the starting pitcher market. If I'm shopping a starting pitcher, they'd be among the first teams I'd call.
  20. Given all the struggles the Mets have had this season, the injuries and that daunting road trip, first place on May 28, and six games above .500 is awfully darn good. Hopefully they beat up on the Pirates and Nationals on the next road trip and start opening up a bit of a lead.
  21. Gwreck wrote: You know, I went back and looked at the tape of the game: on Daniel Murphy's home run, Sheffield was tagged out at home plate. I don't think he ever touched the plate, and he didn't go back out to touch it after the replay call was made. I was wondering the same thing as I saw Murphy belatedly cross the plate. I was thinking, should Sheffield come out of the dugout to tap the plate himself?
  22. ="Edgy DC":2wbwc1la]I think we have to acknowledge that this is more than a coincidence, but also a product of the Mets building an outfield wall jagged with "quirky" battlements, with stands right up against the rim so peeps' greedy little hands can reach over.[/quote:2wbwc1la] Well, two of the four replay incidents occurred at Fenway. I don't think quirkiness played a part in these. Edgy DC May 28 2009 05:32 AM I'm certain I didn't attribute it 100% to the CitiField configuration. It's a factor, not the factor. Nor was my post a general dump on CitiField, where I haven't even been. metirish May 28 2009 07:16 AM ="Swan Swan H":3bc1nt7m]When the net gets dislodged it can affect whether a goal counts, depending on who knocked it off, if it interfered with the goalie, stuff like that.[/quote:3bc1nt7m] Don't waste your time explaining, this board is full of hockey haters... Where would the Mets be in the standings if all these replays had gone against them? smg58 May 28 2009 07:53 AM ="Edgy DC"]I'm certain I didn't attribute it 100% to the CitiField configuration. It's a factor, not the factor. The Mets could help themselves in this regard by having Subway put up a sign that isn't yellow and white. metsmarathon May 28 2009 08:52 AM is the sign metal? i would think hte clanking sound of a ball hitting off it would be helpful, tho maybe not in a loud stadium... really, they need more cameras, perhaps stationary cameras dedicated to the task? or they could get really fancy cameras that automatically track the ball, following its trajectory and maintaining focus on the ball i he center of the field of view. that would be cool... 24. I'm beginning to think that it's not really a home run until the umpire emerges from the tunnel twirling his finger above his head. It's amazing that that's become such a familiar sight so quickly.
