  5. Time to turn the TV off in disgust.
  6. I suspect they don't want to be publicly bound to the popular choice.
  7. When I was there last month, they didn't do the full lyrics of the song, just the more commonly known ones. They skipped everything from "Oh, the butcher and the baker..." to "... the Mets of New York town." They did include the two lines starting with "Give 'em a yell!" which are also, I think, less well known. The Mets broadcasts on Channel 9 used to have Meet the Mets as the opening theme song. They only played this part: ]Meet the Mets, Meet the Mets Step right up and greet the Mets Bring your kiddies, bring your wife Guaranteed to have the time of your life Because the Mets are really sockin' the ball Knockin' those home runs over the wall East side, west side, ev'rybody's comin' down To meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town. For many many years, I thought those lyrics were the entire song. (I still remember that opening montage ended with a closeup of Cleon Jones sliding into home plate. I bet it's on YouTube somewhere...)
  8. I like Twist and Shout. And I Like It Like That is also fun. But none of them are Meet the Mets. Any team can play those other songs, but only man can build a fortieth floor! I mean, only the Mets can play Meet the Mets!
  9. Meet the Mets. My "fear" is that The Curly Shuffle will win. I don't really care about this, but Meet the Mets is the only good choice.
  10. When I was there, the line was pretty darn long about 45 minutes prior to game time. Maybe it was short compared to during the game. I don't know, we didn't head back that way again.
  11. We're not allowed to make fun of Mariano Rivera's pool, because he once painted a church.
  12. Well, when Archie Andrews dies, you'll be all set for that thread.
  13. Is that Mama's of Corona? (They have a location on the roof of the Rotunda.) When we were there, I had the turkey/mozzarella hero. (I loved being able to order a "hero" instead of a "hoagie" by the way.)
  14. How about a challenge: Find ten photos of Mets wives with Farrah Fawcett hair.
  15. In the United States, we only talk metric for bottles of soda or dilation of cervices.
  16. I was surprised, when I was in the UK, to see that highway (or motorway) distances were measured in miles and not kilometers. I guess it's the same way in Ireland? It does seem that in Europe the continent is more metric than the island nations.
  17. Nice job! And you managed to write about the Yankees without any glowing recounts of the exploits of Ruth-Gehrig-DiMaggio-Mantle!
  18. When I buy the Mets, I'm going to add a Jackie Gleason Rotunda to the other side of Citi Field. And I'll cover the facade with big blue and orange corrugated metal titles.
  19. He had a lifetime 5.31 ERA vs. the Mets in 35 games: http://leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=3126 Trivia question: What do Mookie Wilson, Jeff Kent, Edgardo Alfonzo, Gary Carter, Dave Gallagher, Tony Tarasco, Joe Orsulak and John Gibbons have in common? Answer: They've never been in Willets Point's kitchen. And they're also the only Mets to homer off Michael Jackson.
  20. In countries that use the metric system, do they measure dilation in inches?
  21. Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals, and Wednesday's win, will close some time over the weekend. (Or on Monday.) Surprisingly, there are currently more votes for a game in which the Mets lost a two-hit shutout than there are for an 11-0 victory. Regardless, if you plan to vote for either of these games, try to do so today. I may, if I get the opportunity, close them out as early as tomorrow morning. 22. Let me rephrase then... Perhaps the Mets, upon their departure from Philadelphia next week, will find themselves with the best record in the National League East.
  23. Phillies score four in the first in Tampa, but then the Rays get three in the bottom of the inning and three more in the second inning. At the end of three, it's 6-4 Tampa.
  24. Now the Mets pretty much just flushed $35 million down the train. $35 million that they could of given to a more capable player (Raul Ibanez). Down the train? It's too early to write off the full value of Oliver Perez' contract. I'm not confident that he'll prove to be worth the money, but he's only missed a couple of months. If he gives two and a half solid seasons from this point on, the money isn't at all down the train.
  25. Okay, so now there have been five hundred and thirteen 3 to 2 games.
