I'm surprised to learn that Valadius doesn't already have the power to reorganize baseball. I've heard it said a lot recently that baseball has nowhere to expand to, and no markets to which they could relocate teams. I don't agree. As Val said, there's Portland and Charlotte. I'd think a team could possibly do well in Tennessee too. But I don't really think the baseball map needs much of a shakeup right now. I'd focus more on scheduling, interleague play, the silly All-Star Game rule, and other things. Well, okay, there's one geographical change that I'd make: I'd relocate the Yankees to the Aleutian Islands and rename them the Walruses. Wipe out all that tradition in one swell foop.

I'm very familiar with that building. It's one of the most prominent skyscrapers in the Philadelphia skyline.

If the Yankees club record was held by a guy like Roy White, this wouldn't be getting as much attention. It's more, I think, that it's a Lou Gehrig record that's about to be broken that's driving this mania. The hoopla is probably more (but not entirely) a reflection on Gehrig than it is on Jeter.

And why the distinction between Fred and Jeff? If any Wilpon should be blamed, shouldn't the buck stop with Fred? I think Jeff is unfairly painted as a no-talent child of privilege. (He may in fact be that, but I don't think we've seen any real evidence one way or the other.)

Welcome back, Carlos. Despite everything the "shut him down" crowd has said, I'm glad you're back for the next few weeks. Hit some homers, make some nice catches, and enjoy some peace of mind this winter.

Bert Campaneris?

Voting for the September 3 series finale against the Rockies (an 8-3 Mets win) will close some time tomorrow. www.cranepoolforum.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12412 Only five voters so far.

I'll try Jimmie Foxx for Athletics homers.

Pirates: Honus Wagner, hits

I'll start with Senators/Twins: Carew for hits and Killebrew for homers?

Pelfrey 6 Murphy 4

I wonder, if something amazing happens in that sixth inning, if the guys will be able to maintain their silence. (Image if there was a triple play, or a disputed home run call, or a serious injury...)

Well, then Lora doesn't exactly complete the trade, does he?

His Wikipedia page, which I probably can't link to, shows a photo of a statue of Ernie outside Comerica Park. I know the first statue at Citi Field has to go to Tom Seaver, but a Ralph/Lindsey/Bob statue should perhaps be the second one. And hopefully while Ralph is still alive. (Maybe they'll do full statues of Lindsey and Bob, but just a closeup of Ralph's hands holding a microphone.) www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernie_Harwell

That's sad. I haven't seen or heard much of his work, but he's always seemed like a nice guy.

It seems that it may not be a good idea to do your own legal research. I've always liked Jerry, and I'm sorry he's going to jail, but... what a dope.
