  1. I saw October 2006 as pure fun. I loved every minute of it, except for that last moment when it rather suddenly ended.
  2. None. But I suspect the Wilpons don't see it that way yet. There seems to be some buzz that Omar's leash is shorter, that he's in trouble, etc. But I don't think a firing is imminent, and if you don't fire your GM in early October, I would think that means he survives the offseason. (Unless he takes off his shirt and starts shouting.)
  3. I'm with Edgy. The tension of the last two Septembers, despite the unhappy endings, was much more enthralling than the apathy of this September. And August, for that matter.
  4. What would really be classy would be for the Mets to name the clubhouse swimming pool (if there is one) after Mariano Rivera.
  5. I think that's exactly why it would be fun. (And also one reason why it won't happen.) I do hope that the Mets have reevaluated their earlier position, and that we read of a Jerry Manuel firing early next week. There's really only one reason to keep him: the fact that he's signed, and is owed money, for 2010. Other than that, he's done everything a fired manager ought to have done.
  6. Even though there are only five voters so far, voting for the September 28 game (Monday) in Washington may close some time in the next hour or two. If not, I'll close it tomorrow. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12589
  7. Keith's comment was prompted by Anderson Hernandez's flip to second on the grounder, where he failed to get the force out and opted not to get the easy out at first. I'm not sure, though, if Keith was blasting Anderson Hernandez, or the entire team. I suspect it was the latter.

  9. Keith really ripped him, didn't he? "I've been holding my tongue for six weeks, but that was abysmal!"

  13. Most likely no. I haven't watched a non-Mets postseason game since I watched one game of the 2005 World Series.
  14. I'm amazed at how disconnected I am from all this. I watched a little of the Mets game last night, and they gave a "pennant race update" of the Rockies/Brewers game, and I didn't know which team was in the race, or why the game was significant. I also have no idea who's in first place in the AL West or Central. Other than in the NL East, I don't even look at the standings anymore! I'm really becoming a fallen fan.

  16. Let me say the N-word now and get it out of the way: no-hitter.
  17. I tried to use the new "Bump" feature, but I couldn't find it. I'm pretty sure I saw a reference to it somewhere, but maybe I was mistaken. Anyway... BUMP!
  18. Adam Rubin reports today that for 2010 the Mets will switch their pinstriped uniforms to an off-white "retro" look. The solid whites will remain bright white.
  19. If the Braves cause the Phillies to miss the playoffs, I'll be absolutely delighted. I won't be watching October baseball one way or the other. That was pretty much decided over two months ago.
  20. If anything, I would assume it would be because of his role as Wright's mentor. It can certainly be argued that he didn't do a good job of it this year, but they may be thinking that firing HoJo could deepen David's funk. I'm not saying I buy this reasoning, but I'm just speculating as to what the team's thinking might be.
  21. The Phillies have a magic number of 3, and there are 12 remaining games (6 for Phillies, 6 for Braves). So they need 3 of 12 games to go their way, which gives them an NHOP of .250. If the Phils lose tonight and the Braves win, the NHOP would then be 3 of 10, or .300.
  22. Figueroa 3 Parnell 1 Tatis 1.5
  23. The Phillies' NHOP*, in case you're wondering, is .250. *Necessary Happy Outcome Percentage
  24. I just took a peek. Mets trailing 1-0 in the middle of the fourth.
  25. That's the one that gets me too. Murphy leads off the 9th with a triple in a tie game, and he gets stranded there. I was sure, at first, that he was going to score the winning run. David Wright following with a strikeout pricked my gonfalon bubble, and it all went downhill from there.
