  3. Except for the rare cases where I think there's some point of order that might actually get the umps to change their minds, I'm generally thinking, "Sit down and shut up so the game can continue."
  4. I think the only advantage is that you won't get ripped for doing something "unconventional" in the even that it doesn't work out.
  5. I was watching that game in 2003, and was absolutely stunned when Little let Pedro continue pitching. That, though, was an aberration. With the Red Sox, Pedro Martinez was the tail that was allowed to wag the dog. In most cases, it's the pitch count that rules over everything else these days. I'm waiting for the next step in baseball evolution; I don't know that it will be better, but I'm sick of the current variety of push-button managing. I'm ready for the next innovation that will put this LaRussa-inspired eighth-inning/ninth-inning crap behind us.

  7. I like the turkey and mozzarella hero from Mama's of Corona, found on the food court atop the rotunda. I'd try other stuff, but whenever I'm at Citi, the line at Mama's is the shortest, so that's where I end up.

  16. I'm reminded of something that Bill Gallo (a Cardinals fan) said in a cartoon back around 1985, regarding Ozzie Smith: "Ozzie Davis is here to save us." I have to admit that I didn't catch that mistake until someone mentioned it in "Voice of the People" a few days later. Then I had one of those "DOH!" moments. Anyway... Ike Davis Is here to save us.
  17. Does he even think that even the most panicky, or picnicky, or picketing, Mets fans are all tied up about Ike Davis right now? He's here, only a couple of weeks "late" (if you want to call it that) and he had a nice debut in a Mets victory. Things right now are sunnier than they've been for quite a while. Not to mention, the slight delay in calling him up is more likely to help the 2016 Mets than to hurt the 2010 Mets.
  18. Somehow "panicking" turned to "picketing."
  19. I would also think the Mets are a lot less concerned about Chris Carter's future free agency than they are Ike Davis'. At this point, anyway.
  20. What? Does Sid's penis smell like a cucumber?
  21. Yes! Just please don't include any numbers in those comments. GOOD: I had to give Capra extra points for picking off Gehrig in the seventh. Don't forget that play! BAD: I had to give Capra an extra 0.75 for picking off Gehrig in the 7th. Don't forget that play! All I really request in that thread is that there are no posts that aren't votes (until after the tallying is complete), that there are no numeric values except those that represent actual votes, and that we avoid nicknames and at least try to spell the names correctly. So if somebody wanted to reply to Edgy's comment about the points to Buzz Capra, either do it along with your own vote (if it comes later) or here in this thread.
  22. I know. And I'm in the awkward position of speaking for others based on a "feeling" that I've picked up. I may be completely off base here, and if so, then I apologize for that. I personally don't have any problem with your comments; I just get a bit discouraged when participation goes down. (And it's not because of my "hard work." Schaefer tallying literally only takes me a few minutes per day.)
  23. "Distribute the points accordingly" sounds a bit authoritarian. It would be better for you tell us why you voted the way you did without telling everyone else how to vote.
  24. Niese 3.1 Nieve 1.3 Mejia 1.3 Pagan 2.1 Davis 1.1 Bay 1.1
