all i've ever played is the free Yahoo fantasy leagues, so i have no idea what i'm supposed to do. I've never actually participated in an auction-style draft.
Do i pay actual money? how much? when? to whom? what are the rules of the draft and the league? When? Where? Who? How? and sometimes why?

You need a fangraphs account, and then a $10 Ottoneu league purchase. https://ottoneu.fangraphs.com Technically the spot isn't "open" yet so I'm not entirely sure how it works to sign up without a league ,or if you just pick a league and I pull you in. I can probably abandon the team but I can't "reserve" it I don't think. (maybe create a fangraphs account and let me know what it is first and we'll see if that works?)

Auction draft is pretty simple. Basically you've got a $400 salary cap and 40 players. at 9pm on either teh 22nd or the 23rd we take turns nominating a player from the pool and it's open season on people clicking +$1 or putting in a price. after 10 seconds of no activity, high bid gets the player. It's a keeper league so if you super overpay for a player you're going to end up cutting him next season probably, and you want to reserve money/spots for in-season chinese/blind auctions.

Scoring categories are (OBP, SLG, HR, R and ERA, WHIP, HR/9, K)

You get 12 points for leading one of the categories, 11 points for being second, etc. 12 person rotisserie style league.

also worth noting is that when you cut a player, you are responsible for 50% of his salary until someone else picks him up, or until the end of the season. so if you are taking over the deathship, and you were to, for whatever reason, cut $63 Mike Trout, you'd still be on the hook for $32 until he joined another team.

GGLDM is supposed to be renewing but hasn't gotten to me.

I've gotten blowback on both Thursday and Tuesday and I'm not particularly hopeful blowing it all up and trying to find a new convenient date. We could try to find a sitter maybe?

Actually, I just tabulated all the responses I got and it does seem like Thursday is better, though I worry non-responders might not be good for that date and are just lazy about telling me and could lead to a hissy fit.

to be fair we're only at 7/12 Crane Poolers at the moment anyway. well, 7/11.

I don't think it's a big deal if no one claims the team, but it'd be nice if _someone_ played. At the very least make the team more competitive for next year because if we just go without, it'll be tough to have someone join with an empty team against all our keepers.

it's conceivable that i could wind up m.e.t.b.o.t. and have him run his draft from a second computer... though last time i tried that it didn't work out so well for my primary team.

for the record, my plan would be to use the average player salary for our league as his max bid, and also establish a set number of salary bins for the 'bot so he doens't just end up with a bunch of $30 players and $1 scrubs...

though i may see if i could recruit a mets fan that i work with. that would probably be better!

Yes. anyone that knows someone that might want to play ,reach out! hell, even if they just want to play with the auction draft. I'd rather have the 12th team at least drafting and having a roster so that we could presumably pick it up next year if we had to, without having to figure out if we need to have an expansion draft or something.

I don't think we can let someone in after, with all the real players taken, if that happens, I dunno.. I feel like if we don't have someone by draft time I should release all his players though.

It's open to random people. Anyone that wants to claim the team can claim the team. The team's already pretty bad, but a team starting from scratch in 2018 against keeper teams is pretty hopeless. If that happens I think we all have to agree to give the new team a player or something in advance, but we'll worry about this then.

had all my draft prep on my one computer, which failed to load at all during hte draft. boo.

good thing i wasn't relying on that computer to play the part of m.e.t.b.o.t.!

it would be tempting to spin up the 'bot to see how well he could do with picking up the pieces of the draft... there are still some useable pieces out there. and if the team were managed even a little, it could form the foundation for some future team to come in and not suck mightily for ever.

or we could figure out how to run an expansion draft...

we don't need to worry about it now, but I feel like we'll have to set up something. like new team would get one player from each team and each team would be able to protect..3? guys.
