Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 The fact that he grew up just like us, loving the Mets & going to games, endears him to me. The fact that he's also a fantastic play by play guy put's him over the top. We have always been fortunate when it comes to broadcasters, but never as fortunate as when Gary was given the lead spot in the booth. For him to surpass the feelings I had for Bob Murphy is quite an accomplishment, because I thought the world of Murph.I would say "good luck" but I don't think he needs it. He's the best.[fimg=400:sy1rveru]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/i8FyONMGr0VlroN-E4lbvRH91CZtxsJffURDxLC_rA9snpvANJAPnJfKkYxtY2X6mjP5K9HwgENHfTYqzZ3d6Nfkp4Vk4h4O3h09WdQ9R-vdkHkFecZiVpL3FXMFlC_hVVTlNgBT3udFtPBchb14LoP2prPRgsIUVV7ay3gU-I-SnpRtIeBFRDL2RXXvbsfsvTlNnHnxORKzpicAE4w1C6UbyoN3SxiL5LcgZOaas86n-CmMwLboeoMn-lIlzBc32laIQvKvwQeUdVe92P8gLQuJE0MJ2eT_ZmX77Fcbv9yakBmhFeS2KmC5ECQT2VWlS6LRY7rT4jok6aFQi9XtR0Nm317SyfWBNQVCJP7yhXNzqU0DVaJsDTKSs3khK_kI7u7hyDNWaqBSUEnrW-Qm3Ue0poWsie-XJ5HLmXGrLCvo0y0GnYpsaGdndZzqQL6lYV1SE_RN8glWF9lC9Byk5DtJrtmyNi82VLHbWT-c1Ckz9vBLsq8rmIoDcNJacKYTp1BXUe6HL5cn20E7IM2quw2UNbkbXu2BL3ck3rQth4D8NzSMADRyyVMP4Jyj3LoAgd0XeulKtf9ApyYWhp3uGHSl7tWz9qYPlcuxGNbrIu-c04-Iqg=w910-h1260-no[/fimg:sy1rveru]
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I would have thought that he'd need a few more miles on him before being considered - and I suspect that he'll be passed over this time for one of his older cohorts (Harrelson, Keiper, etc.) and that the mere consideration will be honor enough for now. But, even if he's not the honoree now, this serves as a great omen that future induction is coming his way.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 The late Bill King, long-time broadcaster of Oakland A's games (and Raiders football and Warriors basketball) is this year's Ford C. Frick award winner.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Gary Cohen's day will come.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 "Frick" is Latin for "let's give the award to not the best candidate."

Then, he added that Steve Somers had broadcast in the Bay area and may have worked with King. Did anyone listen to the Schmoozer's intro tonight? If so, did he say anything about King? What did he say?Later
