Deserved that L. Crowd was dead. Blevins screwed up, so did Bruce/Grandy, so did Cespy, so did former Met Travis d'Arnaud. Gsellman being unable to hit didn't help. Tony Randazzo didn't help.

Good games for Cabrera ad Big Jim Henderson, tho, so there's that.

You were at the game tonight? How big was the crowd? And by that I mean head-count, not the fantasy island numbers the Mets put out. Because the crowd looked small on the TV and what with the Mets being in a pennant race and all, I was wondering about the crowd size and why it looked so small.

I was there as well (as was, not far from me, D.J. Short; we could have recreated Word Books magic). They said 30,000. It wasn't actually far off from that. Place filled in as the night went on. There were some college groups that took up seats. And there were gnats circling the right field promenade, though I don't think they count in the attendance.

There was a nice "LGM!" refrain heading down the steps after the loss, which was a first in my recollection. Then again, there was the pronouncement in the postgame men's room line that "Cespedes has had a shit year." Yeah, based on his most recent at-bat, absolutely.

Not an inspiring affair, but PH'ing for Bruce almost made it a moral victory.

Why would you pull Salas there, then leave Blevins in to face the righty?

Fucking Collins.

For all the motherloving lefty-righty bullshit he buys into... he misses the two-foot-putt of bullpen decisions. Blevins against ANY righty is trouble. Blevins against a LEFTY KILLER? FFS, White Jerry, if you're going to overmanage...

I guess the point of using Bevvy was to get Inciarte out and when he failed at that he had no choice but to pitch to Garcia. It was the least surprising result.

I got bored of reading baseball books.

Would trust G's sparse crowd estimates. Of all things people were in our seats when we arrived so we moved over and down and nobody was sitting behind us.

Um, our offense has become terrible again.

The Terry Collins move is indefensible.

With one out and a runner on first, the lineup was:

1. Enciarte (L)
2. Garcia ®
3. Freeman (L)

Terry lifted Salas, the guy who had just gotten them the two biggest outs of the game with the bases loaded to call on Blevins. Why? Because Blevins is left handed.

Here are Enciarte's splits:

vs. Right: .743 OPS
vs. Left: .744 OPS

He is nearly identical no matter who he is facing. In fact, he's slightly better against lefties. Plus Enciarte is a singles hitter. He's not going to take you out of the park.

But there was only one out. Meaning that if you bring in Blevins, even if he retires Enciarte, you are going to have to make another pitching change, or leave him in to face Adonis Garcia. Here are Garcia's splits:

vs. Right: .707 OPS
vs. Left: .792 OPS

There is an 85 point difference in OPS. Garcia is much better against lefties. And as JCL said, the result was not surprising at all.

With one out, you are going to have to have a lefty-righty matchup someplace. The obvious move is to let Salas face both Enciarte and Garcia, then bring in the lefty to face FFF.

If you make the move to Blevins there, you have to fully commit, then bring in a righty for Garcia, then another lefty for FFF.

The one thing you cannot do is allow Blevins to face Garcia.
