G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 [youtube:1gxhlgfz]9gY_SbSIG0U[/youtube:1gxhlgfz]Even Illinois' own REO Speedwagon, the first name band to play a postgame concert at Citi Field, knows the Mets keep burnin' the Cubs -- four in a row last October, four in a row a couple of weeks ago. Plus there's that one-game winning streak they arrive in Chicago on.Matz keeps the fire burnin' tonight versus Lester.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Geez, Cabrera still brutal with RISP.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Not so down on productive outs when you see outs as counter-productive as that.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 ist and 2nd on and Grandy hits into DP.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Rizzo is not above swinging from one knee.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Well, that at-bat stunk.Rizzo hit so many fouls that Matz seemed to run out of ideas, went with the change, and KAPOWIE.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Matz just pizzes me off. Great throw by Cespy
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 That's Cspedes-brand throwing. That went from a stand-up run to out-by-10-feet in a blink.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Gary's wrong about the pitchers' numbers on the Shea scoreboard, there absolutely was a time when you had to check the program in order to find out which number corresponded with which pitcher.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Bunting Matz = probably not the right move.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Hows this game goin?Eww. Do we have a hit?
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Glad I caught that. Flores didn't. That was embarraskin. Better not cost us.Shit, steals second.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Rizzo is so on top of the plate that an outside pitch to him isn't really outside.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Already 0-for-5 w/RiSPFortunately we were already so bad in these situations that I think tonight's oh-fer might actually raise the team's average.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Jeeze Loueeze Travis, learn how to properly block a pitch. You don't back hand that. Apply yourself. Drop to your knees, get low to the ground, put that glove face open to close that hole under your ass. I think he may be the cause of all his injuries. On that play, if he did it right he wouldn't have a bruised neck.

But didn't the scorecard indicate the pitcher's uniform number rather than some arbitrary sequential number? It wouldn't be 1 Cuellar 2 Dobson 3 McNally 4 Palmer. (Would it?)
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Adam Rubin ?@AdamRubinESPN 1m1 minute ago Steven Matz is now 0-4 with a 4.73 ERA in his past nine starts. #metsNo Wilmer KB? *slaps forehead.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 lol. They got throwing back the homer thing down pat. Isn't it like super weak that they don't throw back the actual ball. Doesn't that water the whole gesture down?

Just like they were talking about at Wrigley still to this day, the active pitchers for each team were listed alphabetically in the program which corresponded to the number on the scoreboard.Don't remember specifically when they 'updated' to the uniform number but it definitely existed for a while.Maybe one of the guys around here who specializes in dredging up old photos of Shea will come up with one where all the pitchers seemed to have single digit numbers. The only difference in those days is that the numbers only went up to 9 or 10. Tonight in Wrigley some team was using pitcher #15

I was fascinated with that scoreboard. That's why I felt compelled to sneak up into it after a game once back in the early 70's.
