I never would have guessed it. All those years I wished for the Mets to bring a complete team into a season, I figured I'd be ecstatic looking forward to the year. If they had brought in pitchers in 2007. Or hitters in 2008. Or if they had been able to re-sign Olerud in 2000.

I mean, I'm definitely happy. Thrilled even. And nervous, because of course, they haven't won anything yet. And there's always a risk of injury. And it's not crazy to think that Cespedes, and Granderson, and Familia could all fall back to the pack a bit. But I'm still very optimistic.

But it's also kind of boring. I mean, you can only milk the car thing for so long.

A) they all seem so impossibly young
B) they all seem so impossibly rich

Maybe when they are playing ball for our entertainment, they will be more interesting. I'm just not into personalities, I guess :D

We are just beginning the worst 6 weeks of the year as far as I'm concerned. Only if you're one of those people who get off on college hoops is there anything to look forward to. The weather gets a little better but not nearly enough, the only thing that can happen in Spring Training is an injury. Get ready for lots of rain.

I'm looking forward to this season more than I have any season since 2008.

But not enough that I'll watch any spring training games. A few years ago I turned on a spring training game for the first time in years. Lucas Duda was batting. He struck out. In the course of that one at bat I was already bored and turned off the TV.

Hi, I'm bi-polar Mets fan! I bitched and kvetched all winter.
Looking forward to Cespedes beaming down from a drone to
practice tomorrow live on SNY!

You must be one of those haters who generated today's bizarre "Lucas Duda: Why Do Mets Fans Hate Me?" Ken Davidoff article.

That article is just so much bullshit. Anyone here hate The Dude?

You've gotta be trying really hard to hate if you're gonna hate that guy. I bet there's people in this world that Boo has beaten up that don't hate him.

Even prior to this piece I had seen several national articles referring to Duda as an especially unpopular Met.
I don't see it or get it, although it's may just be one of those things that starts with a single mention somewhere then is copied by others who assume that the initial reference means that it's a universally agreed upon fact.

LET'S GO RAN-GERS [clap, clap, clapclapclap]

There are other teams and THEIR weirdness to watch. Maybe the hard rain falls in an entertaining fashion in, say, Tampa or Jupiter while we're playing Who Are You Driving?

Only the worst fans in the world (we have a few of those, sorry to say) would.

I feel like Davidoff is one of those writers who consistently misinterprets fan sentiment. I think he lacks the intuition to discern between tough love and hate, like and love, etc.

If Chris Christie is Davidoff's source, I'm really gonna be pissed.

March Madness helps, a bit, though I also live in an NCAA-crazy town.

I can watch spring training games, too, at least the first 5-6 innings where the players are guys I have heard of. I will likely record most of them on the DVR and watch them in the evenings, on those days that I'm not working from home in order to catch them live.

As for boring, fuck no. I can't remember being so jacked up about a season to start since the Piazza era.

I mean there is a decent amount of people out there that don't think he's that good, too streaky, too low average, don't understand true value, etc. But to take that and interpret it the way Davidoff does (especially with the over-hated phrase that makes no sense) is nothing more than click-bait really, but most of what the 'have to write something' folks write during this time of year is click-bait.

What's amusing to me is that he states it as NY, apparently he's in on this A-Rod redemption campaign that the media is on.

I think Davidoff thinks he's right but swung and missed is all.

Part of this stems from a Davidoff column he did a few weeks back, and has done before, where he lists guys who he thinks may be either 'Over-Rated' or 'Over-Hated'.
Here it is: http://nypost.com/2015/12/29/baseballs-overrated-and-over-hated-attractions-in-2015/ -- Not the greatest column idea in the world but nothing harmful, just typical off-season filler type stuff.

Now I don't know if he picked up the supposed Duda hate from hearing it elsewhere or if the other columns I've seen* picked it up from him, but it seems a bit out of proportion either way.
Right now it seems like one of those things that just grown on itself, a bit like the guy who penned the 'Eagles Suck' column knowing the kind of blow-back he'd get by doing so just one day after Glenn Frey's death which then gave him the juice for the follow-up 'I'm the most hated guy on earth right now' column the following day.

* I recently read a prospect article from a national writer which talked about how Met fans can't wait until Dominic Smith gets here because of how much they don't like Lucas Duda.

Now that I think about it I complained a lot about Duda when they had him the outfield. I demanded he be removed after seeing his first two games in left. I can say I hated Duda in the OF and probably did say that back when. But I never hated Duda or his bat. And the work he's done to become at least average at first has been very impressive, IMO. I don't worry about him in the field anymore. Yea, he's streaky as hell but we know what we got in him. No complaints anymore. Home town kid. I want him to make good.

Rooting for him to have that one season when he sustains things for a more extended period of time. He could (he should) have a 40HR season in him. I'm rooting for one of those.

Lucas Duda is probably my favorite Met right now. A big, talented guy with self-esteem issues who doesn't take them out on anyone but himself. How could I not love that?

Art thou bored?!

Not to get all Starlight Express on you all, but the answer is within you.

Division Opponent threads haven't all been started. Just the Nats, I think. Pick an opponent and start us down the road of enemy knowledge. Let's get to the point where, when the Mets have a big series approaching, they come hear to know the enemy.

Wifey Watch is not a one-man show. Pick a Met and learn the story of his spouse. Her humble upbringing, how they met, what she thinks of New York. Publicly accessible information only, please. No stalking.

Portrait Threads. Man, that outfield portrait thread was fun. Too bad it's hard to find three outfielders in the same photo earlier than, like 2005. Come up with another type of photo and start a collection. Here are some ideas: "Plays at the Plate," "Manager Rhubarbs," "Mets with Their Kids," "Mets in Evening Wear," "Mets Mugshots," "Mets as Schoolboys in Kneepants." The possibilities for a series are limited only by your imagination.

Minor League Teams need threads. We can't ask the Mets affiliates to follow themselves.

Make this the forum it was born to be. Pick an angle or facet of the Mets world and start a bad-assed thread.
