I thought I was doing horrible but I ended up with a dozen Mets cards. That's not bad. I'm not counting the World Series cards ( I got 2) which I will be counting as Mets cards even if it only has the team name on the back (One has Cueto, the other has Escobar, Gordon, & d'Arnaud). Got the two top cards on my wantlist (for the entire set), Mets and "other". The Conforto rook (reg- if I ever get the camo, great, if not, don't care) and the Kris Bryant future star.

The correlation was very good. No doubles within packs (I know u get more for your buck but I still don't like those giant brick packs), card order within packs is broken down nicely. I thought I got a double of the GOODEN MLB DEBUT card but on closer inspection one has silver font and one has gold font. Everything else on the two cards are identical, but one is slightly tinted gold. What's the deal with that? I did get doubles of Wilmer and Familia. I got...I guess it's a parallel Cuddyer (it's rainbowy). And a first pitch card with Victor Espinoza in a Mets jersey.

[u:3pr8jage]Special cards[/u:3pr8jage]
[u:3pr8jage]Bergers Best:[/u:3pr8jage] I usually don't like throwback cards that don't have a regular old stat card back, but I'll make an exception with these because there's a neat portrait drawing of Sid on the card back.
[u:3pr8jage]Perspectives:[/u:3pr8jage] Kinda kool and different.
I like the alt gold border look this year. They put some thought into that.

The rest like BACK TO BACK and PRESSED INTO SERVICE are garbage, at least til I see a Met on one.

DGW: I got the Houston Street too. That's the only card I've seen that does not have the double corner fade look. Only has the fade at the bottom.

I like the design but once again, feels more like Stadium Club, and the cropping of team logos was a silly move. I mean, they pay oodles to use these logos and then then chop em up. At least ours says Met. The Yankees are the Kees.

The MLB Debut have bronze, silver, and gold versions.

There are a number of parallels. The "rainbow foil" version you got is the most basic. There's a black & white photo parallel, and there are a number of other color parallels (gold, purple, black, etc.) where the "smoke" part of the image has some colored gridding in it.

I was going to say that the collation was pretty good after I opened the two 72 count boxes I bought on Saturday, which resulted in no doubles (!).

Then I bought another 72 count box yesterday. 36 cards were doubles...

Whoa!

I think it has to do with the way they are printed and cut - certain batches go to the 72 count boxes, others go to the blister packs, others go to the individual packs, and so on. I think buying a variety of packs gives you the best percentage of card variablity.

I can tell you that in the brick packs the correlated batch flipped to an upside down card every 4 cards or so. I'm used to seeing a dozen cards or more before the flip, so that tells me they are mixing them much better. But of course, that's only within that batch. I should go back and see if there are any brick packs left of that same batch. Baseball cards don't sell like hot cakes around here.

With those 72 card bricks (a stack of 72 cards wrapped in clear plastic inside a box that's like 4 times the size of the stack) I treat the cards like a bunch of packs. I'll look at 15 of em and then put the stack down. Pick it up an hour later and look at 15 more.

Yea, I'm nutz.

Nah - It took me two weeks to open the last 2015 box I bought. I would open two packs at a time, and leave the rest.

As for collation, I've noticed that I get needed cards in groups of 3, which is interesting...

Positive I can knock off some of those. My cards are in my office; I'll check in the morning.

If you're going to San Francisco, be sure to pick up a pack of 2016 Topps Heritage baseball cards, now available all across the nation.

That's a beauty.
Something seems off with the top font/name. The lack of a dot? I don't think that's it because some didn't have the dot. Font too thin? It's a little thing but it bugs me.

2016 Topps:
I suppose this is a camo one.
It would really be messed up if there are camo photos used on reg issue as well.
[fimg=300:2xcjlgq2]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-piyMVI4nP4Y/VtirtyuqWgI/AAAAAAAAl8w/OAsi0sF0jYg/s576-Ic42/2016t-Benoit-camo.png[/fimg:2xcjlgq2]

Has everyone seen the reg Bautista card?
I want to show it but it's a "WOW" card and I don't want to ruin the fun of first seeing this come out of a pack.

Oh, also, my fav side dish this year have to be the Wacky Packs cards.
But get this, I've made 3 BB card runs so far this season. I got 3 of the same Wacky Packs card! The only ones I got. I don't even want to know what the Mets one looks like yet, but I want it bad (I think there's one for every team). I might go for this entire subset.

It's a small subset -- six cards. Got the Royals one if you want it.

The Bautista is excellent. The photography is very good this year.

Only six? That sucks.
I just don't understand Topps anymore. The Royals? Gah!
Is there a Mets one? There better be or I'll have to make one.

One odd behavior that I didn't realize was a habit until this season, I guess because it's been so long in between trips, is I pull the cards of the players on the team we played in the world series. I have a little stack of Royals. I found myself doing this and thinking back, and in 87,74, even 70, I did the same thing. Pulled the Bo-Sox, the A's, and the Orioles (& I would pull and follow these players for years in many cases). Didn't do it in 2001. Saw no need for a pile of Yankee cards.

I bet we all have wacky card habits. Anyone else do this?

Yes, there is a Mets one.

They're a preview for an "MLB Wacky Packages" set that's coming out later this spring, which is why it's small.

So I picked up my first Heritage cards this season. I prefer packs but they didn't have any, only the small blister boxes with a brick of 35 cards in plastic. I got 3 boxes @10 bucks each. I figure these are from the same batch and I'm hoping for minimal doubles.

So I ripped open my first box and I get this:

Now back in the day while collecting Mets cards I saved cello & rack packs if they had Mets on top. Not always, but if it was a Strawman or Gooden, Keith or Carter,..in other words my favorite Mets. I had a fantastic collection (also non Mets- like a Cello w/Boggs rook on top). I remember when I got Gregg Jefferies FUTURE STAR card on top of a rack pack I thought-"I'm gonna save this and make a MINT in about 15 years." Haha.

I no longer have that collection and now I am debating whether I should open this or save it. If it was a player it would be a very hard call to make. I'd deff save a Reynolds rook. Is Conforto's Heritage a rookie? Would any of you other collectors save it unopened?

I also have to add- ugh, I hate to nitpick but to me it matters. The printing & font of METS on the 1967 Topps card is not a difficult thing to reproduce in its exactitude. I do it all the time. But 2016 Heritage couldn't get it right. Wtf? And it's a simple case of the space between the letters. Now you may say this is anal, but a card border is like a finger print to me and I see no good reason why they shouldn't match.
They could have pulled the M closer to the other letters, or could have spaced them equally off the M. Instead they do both. Shoddy.

Actual 67' Topps card:

I feel like Heritage juuuuust misses the design every year, which is always bizarre to me.

That said, no, I don't know that there's any benefit to keeping this sealed.

I couldn't keep it closed. I did horrible overall, only 7 Mets out of 105 cards. But 2 of the cards made up for it.

So when I saw the Conforto Rook I was like:

[fimg=400]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fHPcR4sW3bA/Vv2jzEoExRI/AAAAAAAAmTg/N112QdPgqXYHsUrTn4-1XXQ49QHAOJpmwCCo/s720-Ic42/HERTGConforto-Nola%2BROOK.png[/fimg]
Conforto shares a rookie card with Nola! The locals are very high on Nola.
In 15 years this card will be worth a mint. ha ;)

And then when I got the deGrom refractor I was like:

[fimg=400]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-qAkXPrd5Y70/Vv2j0NmdJdI/AAAAAAAAmTk/Ol1Y-V1UfJ0j6aMNTeH99y0KY93lE4LlwCCo/s512-Ic42/deGromHERTGrefractor.png[/fimg]

65-66-67 were the years I was waiting for and for 67 they missed the color and gloss. Cheap stock maybe.

Stock feels super solid to me. If I fling one at someone they better duck. But yes, it's finish is almost the opposite of gloss, which is disappointing. You can't get any flatter than that. I also got a Josh Donaldson refractor, although not blue bordered like the deGrom. White border. With this set the gloss look of the refractor makes the regular card look extra dull. So the refractors would be the way to go with these, and who can be bothered?

If I get one in a pack or box great, if not I'm not gonna go too crazy. The hobby is becoming too elite for me.

I got 4 packs of Wacky Packages today. And a box of Heritage, which I really didn't want, so that's a sign I'm getting carried away. Lilbit.

Wolfy, I could swear I posted this here or on fb but I see no evidence of it. Maybe I PM'd it, haven't checked.
RE: the ARCHIVE set. Between my brother and I we only found 11 cards that you needed. This was a while ago. I dunno if it's worth mailing but I will if you still need 'em and want 'em. I haven't bought any more Archives since then- I haven't seen them out there. I have which cards listed on a pad that I can't find atm. Sorry I lost track of this.

So the Wacky Packages:
First pack, first team card,of course it's going to be the Royals. I wouldn't have it any other way. But then The Cubs, the Braves, and the Yankees. GAH! Second pack, Phillies, NOOOOO! I can't take this!
Next card, yeaaaaaaaaa, Mets. Mets N.Y. Deli Meat Mitts. Lunch meat made from old baseball mitts. Haha. I scanned it but showing the card would be a spoiler with these. They are the funniest the first time you see them. I will show the Yankees though. Because fk 'em & this is pretty kool.

Heritage: Doing HORRIBLE! 9 packs: 1 Met, Cuddyer, 1 pack left.
I did get a World Series card and I almost wish I didn't, because now I'll want all of these.
Very kool but very awful quality B&W image used on this one.

I have 2 Wacky Packs left. If I get anything worthwhile I will report in later.

There's a color variation of that card. Either it's very rare, or some seller's crazy, because the ask for that card on ebay is $129.99.

Here's the whole Topps Heritage 2016 WS set. It's extremely Royal-centric -- even more so than you'd expect given that the Royals won the damn thing four games to one. Game three - the Mets lone win in the Series - isn't included in the set.

Whoa, I had to cover my eyes. I'll see them for the first time myself, thanks.

Could the color one be like a plate or something? My first thought was these need to be in color, but if they are already out there I won't bother.
Far from my fav WS design, even tho I realize they're tied to 1967.
