Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Hey, I'm Dario Álvarez. I'm a left-handed reliever that has fallen two or three slots on the depth chart since last year ended. Maybe four. That's not cool. But know what is cool? Being the only (and therefore best) 68 in Mets history. That's cool. And so's that big fat [crossout]tilde[/crossout] acento agudo over the A at the start of my last name. Suck on that for a while.Other things you may or may not know about me:I like the slide step. Just try and steal on me.I washed out as a Phillies prospect and was afloat for about three years when the Mets netted me in.I've faced Bryce Harper exactly once and I struck that man out for my first big league win.I've been pretty deadly in the minors to all who would oppose me, and I think, in 2016, I could do the same at the big league level, or at least get my ERA out of the double digits. What do you think?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 An interesting piece, but his pathway to hot Queens action and postgame Torta Neza just got a lot more obstacle-strewn, dinnit? If he's seeing a lot of major-league time at midseason, it's because a whole lot of others have hurt themselves or gotten nabbed trying to make 'roid edibles (Cream of Cream?).I say he gets something like: 5 G/4 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 5 K, some statistically-insignificant ERA/WHIP number.
dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 It's not a tilde, it's an acento agudo. Sorry to be pedante.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 Of course. I was posting on the way out of the office.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Never sees Flushing this year.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Sees Flushing out the window as he changes planes in LaGuardia for his flight to Vegas, where he'll spend the entire year.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 Guys, there's always September. Surely there's a handful of innings awaiting him there. (Assuming he remains on the roster.)
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 That's where he gets my 4 innings.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Year end cuppa'. 8 games, 7 IP. But he is impressive enough all year to merit serious consideration for the a season-long spot in the Majors in 2017. His ERA will more closely resemble a Northeast Area Code than last year's Saturnian one.Later
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 These guys at the top of the alphabet are going to be disadvantaged as far as predictions go, because they're coming up too early. Still ~3 weeks to P&C. I don't have a feel for anyone yet. How are we gonna know how these guys are going to when we don;t even know their uniform numbers?I'm not hosting this show but I'd prefer to tackle two a day in March, or at least, get back to assessing Alvarez, Agbayani and Aardsma later myself.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Blows out his elbow in spring training, misses the year.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 OK, time to start getting under the hood with these. What do you think Dario brings this season?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 The emergence of Josh Smoker behind the Bastard and the Blevinator, makes it a longshot for Dario in this pen. I think he spends the whole year in AAA, makes a September garbage-time appearance or two, strikes out 2 guys in 3 innings. Gives up a triple, though.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 28, 2016 Author Posted November 28, 2016 If you said Dario Álvarez would be removed from the roster and then selected off waivers by the Braves, well, bully for you.Unfortunately, nobody said that. But not a few said he'd never see Flushing, and that was true. While others suggested he'd get a handful of innings late in the year. And that was kinda true too, though he got somewhat more than a handful starting in the middle of the year — 26 2/3 innings between Atlanta and Texas who got him after a late-July trade. He's currently grinding it out in the Dominican Winter League.
