If Seattle swallowed half the money I'd think about it ... and then I'd say no.

Did you see what former Seattle hitting coach Andy Van Slyke had to say about Cano recently?
Worst #3 hitter in baseball; sucked on 'D'; doesn't hustle; was essentially responsible for the manager and coaches getting fired, etc.

Maybe a bit of post-job anger from AVS -- who, to be fair, is not a guy who has to worry about his acceptance speech to MENSA -- but it's been a long time since I heard a prominent player taken apart like that.

This would be the same interview Van Slyke said Kershaw wants Puig off the team.

Personally, I'd want them both. (Puig and Cano that is)

Cano is great. He struggled with some on and off field issues early last season leading him to play a low 156 games for the first time since 2007, but he hit like Cano in the second half.

Of course, his contract is ridiculous. I don't know if there's a reasonable deal there. He's signed for 8 more seasons, through his age 40 season. That's too much. Even if the NL DOES get the DH by then, there's just too much risk for having a second baseman from ages 33-40. Can we rent him for 4 years and then give him back?

Which kind of puts his own son on the spot since folks are going to assume that that's where Papa Van Slyke is getting his info. He'd be better off reining in his mouth a bit if he wants another job anytime soon.
Although to be fair, this is hardly the only story which indicates that Puig's act has grown thin in La-La Land, even amongst the players.

NO WAY.

33 years old, owed tons of money, has already regressed to being a negative defender (something you don't generally ever get back a you age unless injury was the cause) and his bat was nothing special this year either.

I still can't believe that contract, he must giggle in his sleep.
