Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 This is just surreal.Well, ok Cubs. I know things have been tough facing the young Mets' aces. Fortunately things get easier tonight when you face Steven Matz. Yes, the guy who went 4-0 with a 2.27 ERA.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I hope Matz can give the Mets 5-6 strong innings. I expect the Mets offense to abuse Hammels and a parade of relievers. Taking nothing for granted, but I like the Mets currnt position and their chances of winning the pennant. I hope to see the Mets close out the series tonight so they can get a little, well deserved rest going into the World Series. Let's Go Mets!
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Let me get this straight. If the Cubs are somehow able to get through Matz tonight, on deck is Harvey, Thor, and deGrom?Good luck with that.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 GAME: New York Mets (96-74) at Chicago Cubs (101-69)DATE/TIME: Wednesday, October 21 - 8:00 PM ESTWHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, IllinoisLINE: N/A TOTAL: N/APlayoff Series: League Championship; NY Mets leads 3-0The New York Mets are in position to finish off a sweep on Wednesday, when they visit the Chicago Cubs for Game 4 of the National League Championship Series. New York has limited Chicago to five runs while winning the first three games and Daniel Murphy has homered in each contest to run his postseason streak to five, tying Carlos Beltran (2004 with Houston) for the major-league record. As reported before Game 3, there will be no asshole eating at the road games of this series.New York is one victory away from reaching the World Series for the first time since 2000 and will send rookie Steven Matz to the mound. None of the Mets players want to hear any chatter about this series being over, particularly captain David Wright. "Because we understand just like we've won the first three games, these guys can win the next three games very easily," Wright said after going 3-for-4 and scoring twice in Game 3. "This is an excellent team, and you give them room to win a game or streak along a couple good innings, and they're going to get all the confidence in the world and expect to beat us three in a row. So it's as simple as that." Chicago won all seven regular-season meetings with the Mets, but the duo of Kris Bryant (2-for-11) and Anthony Rizzo (2-for-10) has been quiet in the NLCS.TV: 8:07 p.m. ET, TBSPITCHING MATCHUP: Mets LH Steven Matz (0-1, 5.40 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Jason Hammel (0-0, 6.00)Matz lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Division Series as he gave up three runs and six hits in five innings. That contest marked the 24-year-old's first defeat in seven major-league outings, and manager Terry Collins feels he's just beginning to reach his potential. "This guy's got plus stuff, he's got a plus fastball," Collins said at a press conference. "He's going to be 94 to 97 (miles per hour). He's got a plus curveball, he's got a good changeup. Now it's a matter of going out there every five days through the course of the season."Hammel had a rough outing in the Division Series against St. Louis as he gave up two runs, three hits and three walks before being pulled after three innings. He denied that he felt extra pressure competing on the postseason stage during his press conference on Tuesday and was asked if this start is the biggest of his life "Of my life? Obviously, the deeper you get into the playoffs, yeah, I guess you could say that they're the most difficult in my life," Hammel said. "But honestly, I'm not really worried about that. I'm not thinking of it that way. It's the New York Mets versus the Cubs."WALK-OFFS:1. Murphy set the Mets' franchise record with his sixth career postseason homer, while Chicago LF Kyle Schwarber delivered his fifth to become the Cubs' record-holder in that category.2. Bryant is 5-for-31 with one homer and 10 strikeouts in the postseason while Rizzo is 5-for-28 with two solo blasts.3. New York RHP Jeurys Familia has saved all three victories in the series and has five saves in the postseason while giving up just two hits in 8 2/3 scoreless innings.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Am I wrong or has the postseason exuberance significantly increased the salt factor in Edgy's vocabulary?
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Just want to get it done. Don't want to hear the Theo talk of 'it's been done before to a team from New York'.That's a record I want the Yankees to own forever.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Yeah, we really got to Kill KILL KILL and all that jazz tonight andget a few days off. The players and US!Wasn't it reported as late as yesterday that The Harvester may notbe able to go in a Game 5? More reason to get the hell out of Dodgewith a Sweep SWEEP SWEEP!
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 This is Jason Hammel.http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6480/jason-hammelNot a bad stat line at all. 1.16 WHIP and a 3.74 ERA.He is not to be confused with Dorothy Hamill. or Mark Hamill.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Jason Hammel, career vs Mets: 0-3, 4.91 in five starts.
dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Also not to be confused with
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Think Terry goes to his bench?Maybe he throws a start to Plawecki, or starts Niewenhuis over Conforto... just to give folks something to freak out over.

Sticks to his guns. He's shown little tendency to get anybody else in there. Nieuwenhuis hasn't appeared at all right? Nor Plawecki.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 After being drafted by and reaching the major leagues with the Rays, Hammel made stops in Colorado and Baltimore before signing a one-year deal with the Cubs as a FA in Feb of 2014But after just 1/2 season they dealt him away (along with Jeff Samardzija) to Oakland in the deal that brought them (the currently injured) Addison Russell. He then quickly re-signed with the Cubs after the season was over in what seems almost like a pre-arranged thing.Pitched against the Mets in May of this year, getting a ND by giving up just 1 run on 5 hits over 8 innings in a game where the NYM pen blew a 7-inning Harvey shutout.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 in fact Kirk and Kevin are the only two guys that didn't get into the NLDS (Besides Reynolds)They've only used 18 guys in the NLCS so far.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Not that they should be gassed, but the Cubs used six relievers last night.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I've been largely staying away from the media because of timeand over-saturation but am I the only one who saw Harvester isstill hurting and possibly can't go in a Game 5 if needed?
