Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I was thinking about Dillon Gee. I wonder what he was doing while the Mets were celebrating in Cincinnati. Was he watching and feeling slighted? Was he happy for his teammates? I wonder what he must have said to piss off Sandy so much that he wouldn't call him up in September.I still think Dillon could have been really helpful had the games in September gone in a different direction. He might have even become the 7th inning guy. When the Mets win it all, does he get a World Series ring?I was also thinking about guys like Wheeler and Edgin and Montero. I wonder if they cracked open some bubbly wherever they are.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I did see a Gee tweet reprinted somewhere congratulating his "teammates" on their clinch.Dillon is this year's Ed Lynch.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I was thinking similar thoughts, wondering how many Mets put in a significant amount of time in the recent lean years without experiencing postseason play as a Met.I found 17 players who have played for the Mets since 2007 and have been in at least one game in four or more seasons but did not play in any postseason games in 2006.Six of those 17 are current Mets and have a chance to drop off this list when the NLDS starts. (Some are far more likely than others, but I'm assuming that anyone on the current roster has at least a theoretical chance.)Of the 11 remaining, there are 2 who appeared in 2015 but are currently out of the picture. Dillon Gee, mentioned above, is one of them. That leaves 9 who are no longer in the Mets organization.Let's make this a quiz of sorts: How many of the 17 players can you name? Again, they've appeared in four or more of the seasons between 2007 and 2015 but have never played a post-season game with the Mets. Six are on the current active roster. Two played for the Mets earlier this year. Nine others departed the Mets prior to 2015.No need to guess one at a time. Rattle off as many names as you can think of.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Oops, somehow I missed Ceetar's guesses, above. (Sorry about that.) All four (Tejada, Nieuwenhuis, Satin, Evans) are correct.Evans was the one I thought most likely to be overlooked.METS ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (6)Jon Niese, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada, Kirk Nieuwenhuis2015 METS NOT ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (2)Dillon GeeFORMER METS (9)Mike Pelfrey, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Justin Turner, Josh Thole, Angel Pagan, Nick Evans, Josh Satin
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Correction: There are 18. I had all 18 on my list but I counted wrong. So there are five names remaining, and none of them are at all obscure.Evans was the one I thought most likely to be overlooked.METS ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (7)Jon Niese, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada, Kirk Nieuwenhuis2015 METS NOT ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (2)Dillon GeeFORMER METS (9)Mike Pelfrey, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Justin Turner, Josh Thole, Angel Pagan, Nick Evans, Josh Satin
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Ceetar's two recent guesses, Parnell and Mejia, are both correct. Three names remain. Two are linked to each other in a way, and the third is linked to one of the two newly added names.METS ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (7)Jon Niese, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Bobby Parnell2015 METS NOT ON THE CURRENT ROSTER (2)Dillon Gee, Jenrry MejiaFORMER METS (9)Mike Pelfrey, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, Justin Turner, Josh Thole, Angel Pagan, Nick Evans, Josh Satin
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Does Marlon Anderson count? He was before and after 06.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 No, Marlon's not on my list. I'm only counting players who played in at least four seasons beginning in 2007.The three remaining guys are all very prominent.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 The final guy, who nobody guessed, was a left-handed hitting first baseman named "Ike Davis."Of the 18 players in this little quiz, 15 of them managed to win some kind of Schaefer award and were "immortalized" on one or more of my custom 1970s baseball cards.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I missed this quiz, but going back to the original post, I was also thinking about Dillon Gee yesterday -- after just realizing that Logan Verrett's wearing Gee's old #35. Isn't that kinda mean?

Gotta get these on page two. The 74 Newy is my fav. All great though.OE: and that Duda.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2015 Author Posted October 1, 2015 I love that card of Duda. Mainly because that picture is so different than the Lucas Duda we know. That Duda is surly. He came over from the Brewers in a high profile trade and has seen his numbers drop a bit, making him even surlier. He has a contentious relationship with the media. He doesn't walk ("Walks are for pussies"), he's a butcher in the field, and he doesn't run out ground balls. Ever. He does a lot of hunting. He supports open carry. After a loss in which he hit two solo HR's, he spoke openly about how he can't fucking do everything himself. He stares down opposing pitchers if they even hint at throwing inside.
