It increasingly looks like if we're going to win this we're going to have to back into it.

I was just thinking that. And I don't like it, but I'll take it.

I know the press will say we're limping in, and it could be we will be, but if we get in, we get in. At this point, one thing they cannot do, because it would be devastating, is not get in. Right now I don't care how it happens.

Just happen already.

A 3-6 homestand. Unreal. I feel like I've been sent back to June.

Considering that we're scoring ~2 runs/game these days you more or less have ... only with worse pitching to back it up.

Are the Mets wearing a patch or armband or something? I imagine there was a moment of silence before the game.

Don't know if they had a moment before the game but no patch or armband as of yet.

Apparently they did do this:

Just got back from Flushing (bedtime for the little monkey). There was a well-observed moment of silence before the game, and a long montage between innings (the source of the above graphic).

4-6-3

Seems like only a week or so ago when being down 6-3 in the 9th would just mean the Mets would have a dramatic walk-off. I miss those days.

I vote that The Hollies and Spanish IGT thread titles are
banned until the division is secured.

They had midgame chances. They didn't take the chances. It came back to bite them. The Mets succumbed to an inferior bullpen. An exhausted Mets pen gave up the ghost.

Can we make any more team-energizing trades at this point?

First losing homestand of the year at a terrible time. The Hollies have totally disappointed me.

Hey, Terry, man, what's your game now? Can anybody play?

Headed to the 9th in Washington. 4-3 Orioles.

3R HR by Russell Martin makes it 4-0 Blue Jays over the Yanx in the 8th

These are what pass for good news tonight.

We are reduced to praying for the kindness of others in order to succeed.

Exterminate! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

Click for translation: =#BF0040]kill, KILL, KILL!

Nicely done! Sadly, it seems that the Mets' offense is the only thing that's been exterminated.

Well, we can look at it this way:
- It was a really bad home-stand where our lead went from 9.5 games down to 6.5 ...
- on the other hand, the magic number dropped from 11 to 5 over that same span and the NHOP, the pct of remaining games that need to go our way, dropped from around 29% to below 22%

The advantage to building a big lead is that you still have [u:1vrftzis]A[/u:1vrftzis] lead remaining even after you suck for a spell.

I mean, what will energize this team is the playoffs. They're slumping but the games mean little. Magic number's 5, the Mets might not even need to win another game.

They had some hard hit balls at people, Braves had some bleeders that just found grass. Happens.

It was nice to see the crowd at Citi into the game though. That's new.

Indeed. Nice, engaged-but-festive vibe... at least through 6.

even in the 9th a few people tried to start a Lets Go Mets chant instead of angrily grumbling and yelling about firing people.

Alex Anthony, PA Guy, definitely threatened the fan that threw Freeman's home run back with ejection and arrest, so that was cool.
