Seriously, did that pitch even clear the grass?

I'm tired of even discussing Harvey - especially when the bats are 1-for-14 w/RiSP this series (the 1st inning Wright 2B).
Not sure which is worse, the one hit part or the fact that we've only had 14 ABs w/RiSP over 25 innings.

He's not a child. He's an adult. I feel that ultimately the choice should be his.

Are all the choices you make at your job your own?

Point taken. It does not alleviate my anguish though.

That's ridiculous. Terry Collins is the manager. He makes the decisions. Harvey, like pretty much every pitcher in baseball, will always insist that he can pitch longer. It's the manger's decision to decide when to pull a pitcher or leave him in. Collins made the wrong decision tonight based on crappy organizational policy. But in general, we'd crucify and manager who lets the pitcher tell him he wants to stay in the game.

It seems like Terry has been B-teaming this all night.

This is not your average situation for a pitcher. I can't look at it that way.

You don't think Terry had to hear from Sandy and Jeffy? Terry was hamstrung by Harvey's implicit approval of Boras' three ring circus.

The radio guys said that Harvey looked upset about being taken out, but that he should've expected this since it was the plan. Apparently whatever broadcast Zvon is watching showed Harvey kickin' back with a brew saying "I'm done, bro!"

I think you are right. I have thoughts on this.

He didn't look upset at all. He was sitting there with the same expression he always has.

No. But what I hoped to see was Harvey saying:" Hey, I'm a big boy. I can make my own decisions. I'm at 80 pitches. I'm good for at least one more inning."
And bottom line we really don't know what was said. We can speculate.

Agreed. Robles didn't do anything wrong. The silliness of the whole thing is what irks me. And losing the game was infuriating.

Yes, because you're angry at Harvey for not doing something that you cannot possibly know whether he's done it or not.

Because Mets fans have to hate their best players. And make them media laughingstocks. And make them want out of the organizations ASAP.

Because we can't have nice things.

Sounds like we agree. It's odd that the take of the ESPN announcers (and the radio guys I guess?) was that Harvey didn't want to come out. If he didn't want to abide by the plan for a short day he could've told his agent and doctor to go fuck themselves in advance of the game.

I totally understand his decision by the way. If a doctor tells me I could screw up my arm before I get my 200 million contract by pitching too much I would be nervous too. But it's his decision and for the ESPN booth to say he looked like he didn't want to come out it odd, because this is the result of a couple of weeks of discussion that started with his agent opening his big mouth. Well actually it's not odd on ESPN's part, I expect them to not know what's going on in the world or to think before they speak. But I'm surprised that the radio guys are saying the same stuff too.

Did no one point out that if he's annoyed at coming out that he should just realize that it's really his own fault/doing by going along with the limit? Maybe he regrets his decision now that he's in the game and it's actually happening, if so he should remember that for the next start.

I know this isn't directed at me... But I agree with you. I want Harvey to pitch here for many years to come.

Come on. You know what kind of Mets fan I am. I don't diss my own players. I'm always optimistic. And I don't hate Harvey. This is an unprecedented situation as a Mets fan, this 5 innings and out stuff during a pennant race. I'm more disappointed with Harvey than angry. When it came to crunch time I expected him to step up and stay in.

What a disgraceful effort tonight by our guys.

Okay, I'm putting on my lucky Mets jersey (over my kool Mets hoodie which I thought would be enough).

Should I go get my awesome Seaver 69 jersey and put it on on top of the hoodie and the 86 jersey?
