Reunites with Rollins. Phils get 2 minor leaguers.

Thanks for those days of denial, Ruben Amaro.

Man, San Francisco is suddenly looking for sure like the post-season hopeful without depth. They're going to ride their starters or bust against far deeper lineups.

Call me un-American but the Mets could have used Utley this year.

Well, not the Utley who was hitting about .150 til he got off of the DL recently. Also, given our new glut of infielders I wouldn't want him now.

Utley leaves the division as the second-active-leader in games played against the Mets, a category that's bloated with old-timer types despite the latter-day tradition of 18 or 19 games played against division opponents. Utley was looking to steal Jimmy Rollins' crown, but now fabulously wealthy ex-teammate Ryan Howard looks to pass 'em all.

Tony Gwynn's the highest ranking player on that "Games Against the Mets" list (28th) that was never on a team that played 18 games against the Mets in a season. Some higher ranking players (McCovey and Aaron, for example) never played in the Mets division, but were active before 1969, when every team played each other 18x a season.

Chris Spier is a revelation. I never even considered that guy "good for a shortstop," (though checking back, it seems he briefly was pretty good as a young player) but there he is, up there surrounded by immortals.

I think Chipper Jones homered in all 245 of those games.

Fboy will be happy to know that the "Face Buttley" moniker has continued to perpetuate in the CPF universe, to the extent that he can appreciate such things.

Hypothetically, the road to ultimate Met triumph runs through Utley and Rollins. Kind of appropriate. A little offputting. But, obviously, eff (or eph) them.
