Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 The lone Mets representative. Voted in on the player ballot.Familia is one of the five "final vote" candidates.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I don't think Familia has a chance with the name recognition that Kershaw and Tulowitzki have on that "final vote" ballot. He deserves to go in my mind, though.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 Familia certainly deserves to be on the team over some of the token selections (ie. Jonathan Papelbon). Among the five final-vote candidates, I think a good argument could be made that Carlos Martinez of the Cardinals is the most deserving. (Except for the fact that he plays for the Cardinals).
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 How come the Mets PR people are pushing for Dozier from the Twins, too?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Metropolitwins? Are the two franchises merging or something?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Well Minneapolis-St. Paul has a metropolitan area of 3,797,883, while New York is offering 20,092,883, so that's... not quite a fair team-up.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Dozier is deserving of a slot over Altuve, but Kipness is (arguably) having the best year of any 2bman in the AL. Meanwhile Boegarts may be the best SS in the AL and he's not even on the roster, much less starting, because the KC ballot stuffing put Escobar in.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 I still don't get the NYM/Twins connection here.Gary just mentioned it about an inning ago. It sounded like something he was being required to mention but was trying very hard not to sound that way while doing so.Meanwhile the Twins were playing an afternoon game today at home with a 'Vote Dozier' message on the back of the mound where team logos have been popping up in recent years.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 Well, so much for making the All Star team and mailing it in your next start. Today was nearly his best start of the year. I'd say only the one hit/11 K game against St. Louis tops it.

Teams do this ever year, since you can vote AL/NL might as well try to rally the troops. It's a social media campaign.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 When Gary was talking about this yesterday it seemed like he was dying to say how cheesy he thought the whole thing was but was forced to read it straight because it was essentially an on-air promo sent down from above rather than a topic he & Ronnie just chose to talk about. And in addition to the Twins thing I mentioned above, the Yanx were playing with VOTE GARDY lettering behind home plate last night. He'll probably get in anyway seeing as how starting LFer Alex Gordon went down with an injury last night, but the whole thing just smells so bush league.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Smells, looks, sounds, tastes, and feels bush league.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 #VoteFamilia ?@Mets 2h2 hours agoStarting right now every time you tweet #VoteFamilia it counts as a vote. RTs count too--RT this! #VoteDozier #Whiff Well, that's no way to run a country.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Can't wait for the future where every time you think of a player's name it counts towards his vote total.Or maybe they can rig it where each time a player's name is mentioned on ESPN it counts as a vote. That'll be good: Now starting, as the AL short-stop for the 2017 All-Star Game, Derek Jeter
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Mike Moustakas & Carlos Martinez are the 'last man' winners.Does that mean we're done with these silly promos now?
