Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 (edited) Yeah, the 'EVERY BODY CLAP YO HANDS' chant was well timed. Genius marketing I tells ya, Genius!. Edited June 9, 2015 by Guest
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 I think they can do without the 'everybody dance now!' thingafter foul ball dribblers while getting no hit?Recker will wreck it in the ninth anyhow.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 This game could go 14 and we wouldn't get a knock.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 So in the 9th inning we'll have:Recker - who has 7 hits this seasona PH off our .180-hitting bench, probably Mayberry who has all of 11 hits this yearand Granderson who I don't think has made contact yet tonight.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Well, hit or miss, this should spark a transaction or two in Metville.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 But... he's good about taking a pitch to the meat.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Pitching a no-no, and hitting three with no walks, has to be approaching at least tying some weird historical mark.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Hey, Keith: I hate that "You don't bunt during a no-hitter" logic.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 That zone got more than a bit wide on about 5 different pitches in the 9th there, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 If it's any consolation, we're still in 1st place as the Nats are about to go down to the Yanx, trailing 6-1 in the 9th.and I don't care if 1st place is on the line, I still can't bring myself to root for the pin-stripers.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 He got a comfy inside of the plate early in the game too.I blame Ceetar for attending.

Baseball at its highest and most ruthless level of competition, and the batter's supposed to compromise his chances to succeed. Yeah right.

My father attended the 1969 no hitter that Bob Moose threw against the Mets at Shea, which the guys in the booth brought up on the broadcast tonight.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Coach Cuddyer on the post game... uggg.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Ceetar is the reason all this shit is going on.

I wonder how many times Pete Rose bunted to try and end a no-hitter after the fif... oh, wait.Still, If I'm coaching this team, I want at least one bunt an inning. Ruthless indeed.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 The only argument I could make for NOT bunting is that if it's bad strategy at that point in a game that wasn't a no-hitter. Some manager got pissed about a half-dozen years ago after I think it was a 9th inning bunt, but it was also a one or two run game IIRC so I had no problem with it.But we know that Keith is 'old school' to a fault at times and therefore ascribes to the chivalric code.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote:Ceetar is the reason all this shit is going on.oh yes, definitely my fault. It was my tweet about the deep fried oreos I bet. Here's a question I was pondering early. After he hits TWO guys back to back, in the fourth, if Duda gets angry and yells stuff at Heston, does it result in the benches getting warned? Does it result in an ejection in the 9th when he hits Recker?Or, game-theory, does it result in him pitching a little more carefully, a little differently, and he misses just enough to give up some hits?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Maybe, but those outlooks are assuming an aggressiveness and gamesmanship that are not characteristic of this squad's offense. And really guys, ceetar's not the one who misdated the thread.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 The good news about the no hitter is that nobody around the country noticed. ESPN and most of the sports pages were featuring LeBron James stuff. I just heard on WFAN that the Washington Post headline sports page article was about a local high school team and the no-hitter was buried in the newswire out of town recap stuff.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Interesting Grantland article about the strike zone ballooning in the ninth inning of this no-hitter, and about how that is the new normal, except it probably isn't that new at all.
