Baseball Prospectus now has the Mets at 85.7 per cent to win the NL East, and 0.2 per cent for the wild card.

Mets are also now only two games behind the Dodgers, which means they have a shot at being the division winner with the second-best record which would give them home field advantage over the NL West in the Division Series. Given their home/road differential, that could be pretty important.

Just keep winning, just keep winning!

Dodgers dropped their fifth game in a row today; Mets now have an equivalent record. We also have a season-series advantage over the Dodgers which I presume would be the tiebreaker for home-field advantage if they finished with the same record.

Interesting. The Giants are coming on strong, though. Mets split the season series with them 3-3. If the next tiebreaker is record within the division, Mets are 30-17 while Giants are 18-15 and Dodgers are 19-13.

Yes, intradivison record is the second tiebreaker.

Determining Home-Field Advantage in Two-Team Tiebreakers
1. Head-to-head winning percentage during the regular season.
2. Higher winning percentage in intradivision games.
3. Higher winning percentage in intraleague games.
4. Higher winning percentage in the last half of intraleague games.
5. Higher winning percentage in the last half plus one intraleague game, provided that such additional game was not between the two tied clubs. Continue to go back one intraleague game at a time until the tie has been broken.

The Mets have moved ahead of the Dodgers to claim 2nd place among National League division leaders.

They remain one game behind the Yankees for the best record in New York City.

The Mets record still well behind NL Wild Card contenders Pittsburgh and Chicago. While it's good for the Mets this year, the fact that teams with superior records may play in the coin-flip playoff game still pisses me off. So I'm rooting for the Mets to catch up and pass Pittsburgh and Chicago even though they don't need to do so to make the playoffs.

By the way, I can't remember any time in the past 20 years when the NL Central had the strongest division in the league.

Cubs Jake Arrieta needs one more strike for a no-no. He faces Chase Utley of the Dodgers.

I don't see it.

Well, I'm guessing the voters don't typically measure by WAR, but Fangraphs ranks it differently.

1) Clayton Kershaw: 6.6
2) Jake Arrieta: 5.4
3) Zack Greinke: 5.1
4) Max Scherzer: 4.9
5) Madison Bumgarner: 4.4
6) Gerrit Cole: 4.3
7) Jacob deGrom: 4.1
T8) Jon Lester: 3.6
T8) Tyson Ross: 3.6
T10) Michael Wacha: 3.2
T10) Matt Harvey: 3.2

It doesn't seem likely, at this point anyway, that this year's Cy Young or Rookie of the Year (or MVP for that matter) will be coming from the Mets. (Maybe a Manager of the Year?)

But that's okay. I'd rather see a contending team (and a championship team) than any postseason awards.

Dodgers beat the Giants 2-1 in the Greinke-Bumgarner showdown.

Mets now 1.5 games behind the Dodgers for home-field advantage in first round of playoffs.

Dodgers are not losing very many games these days.

Mets are 2 games back for home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Angels do their part and defeat the Dodgers 3-2 tonight, so the Mets finally pick up a game in the race for home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Mets are 2 games back of the Dodgers. A tie is good enough as the Mets have the season-series advantage.

Cardinals lose two in Cincinnati. The Mets are now closer to the Cardinals than to the Nats.

Also...first .500 record since 2008 is now a done deal.

Mets have a guaranteed winning record for 2015.

A week or so ago, a 90-win season seemed like the pinnacle of what the Mets could achieve, but now 95 wins seems entirely plausible.

The way things have been going, it could end up as 101 wins! But I'm thinking it will probably settle in somewhere around 93 or 94. And yes, 95 is possible. They'd have to go 13-6, which certainly seems doable.

Particularly given there are still 6 more games against the Phillies and Braves!
