For those of us who grew up in the 70s and early 80s, we don't have too many wonderful memories from Shea Stadium.

I realize this isn't the point of this thread, but can everybody who writes ledes like this -- even if or especially if your shtick is Long Suffering Mets Fan -- be reassigned to lacrosse? (No offense to any lacrosse fans out there.)

I even had fun during Opening Day, 2003. You know - 15-2, bitter cold... yup, still had fun...

My philosophy whenever doing something that involves entertainment or escapism from something I'm being paid to do is always have fun!

Hell, even when working, no matter how soul crushing and hard the job might be, its a good philosophy to have!

That's a track the buggies are parked on, right?

I might lean LA Coliseum.

That is indeed a telling detail.

Plus w/o an Alouettes helmet and a time machine, we'd have to eliminate the Big O.

Perhaps here is our answer:

Whaddya mean "Perhaps"? Neat find.

This is exciting. I picture them all charging at one another for some sort of mechanical football-on-wheels game.

Not sure if I still have my NFL mini-helmet collection, thoughtfully garnered mostly from a South Florida IHOP by my parents in advance of my ninth birthday. At that juncture, when I became familiar with what every pre-concussed player protected his head with, Oilers wore silver, Redskins were still yella and I had no idea that a bronco was a horse, so it took me a while to match that logo to that team. I also didn't know the Patriot was a patriot, per se. I thought he was some kind of cowboy at first glance, though not a Dallas Cowboy.

Sneaky IHOP probably made sure to stick that placemat in front of every kid, especially if they were dining with their parents. Also, that placemat is, likely, from the 1971-72 season. The Colts and Cowboys as "Super Bowl Stars" is the giveaway. You probably ate your pancakes over that placemat.

If I had that placemat in front of me in 1971, I would have looked at all of the NFL cities and thought about the baseball counterparts in those cities.

Also... is that a Washington Redskins helmet on the top row between the Jets and the Bills? Did they really have a less racist helmet 44 years ago? Why don't they avoid at least some of the heat they've been getting by going back to that helmet?

Right field wall appears darker in picture below even though both photos are from the same game. To my eyes, it looks like sun effects account for the differences, rather than photographic elements. Either that, or the wall gets darker as it approaches the right field bullpen.

Another incredible pic! Of course its shadow and light that makes RF look darker. You can see that if you look beyond to the bullpen wall, still in sunlight. Sun is almost right overhead. Fantastic photograph.

Did anyone claim it was pure white? In my primer white theory the primer coat does not completely obliterate the old green color. Some shows through so it looks white with a green tinge to it. They let that set for a week to 10 days in the elements & then painted the wall the proper color.

I think it's about time we looked into The Adventures of the Mets Bullpen Cart. Because that cart has a history many are not aware of.
What did the cart do before it mysteriously appeared at Shea in 1970?

I'm doing a write up on the '67 outfield walls and I'd like to collect all theories as to why the walls appeared whiter than ever with black numbers as distance markers for the opening of the '67 season. That's the thing that stands out more to me than the light color of the walls. The black numbers.

I've shared my paint primer theory (this includes masking the numbers with black tape), but that's just speculation. I think we all posted thoughts or theories in other threads covering the subject. Lets wrap it up.
Give me your official theory as to why the wall was white®. Both serious and funny theories would be appreciated.

Funny how I've looked at that album cover a thousand times and never noticed that. I do however recall being surprised by this scene back in 1972.

You can't fool me, fellers. That cart didn't exist in '69 and woulda had a cloth covered cap in '72.

As far as we know it didn't exist. More proof the cart was on the road in '69. Woodstock!

You don't even notice the cart unless you look real hard. I can track it back to 1963.
Look, it's waving. What a ham.

A driverless cart in the Presidential motorcade? Did the Warren Commission know about this?

The commission never interrogated the cart. It was interviewed during the 73 senate assassination commitee investigation and claims, as you do, that it didn't exist in 1963.

Where, may I ask, were YOU, Batmags, on November 22nd, 1963?!!
