Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 So what's up with them Phils?- Ryan Howard started both games over the weekend after sitting for three straight prior to that. Without a lefty starter in the rotation I suspect we'll see him at least twice in this series. Otherwise Darren Ruf (I hope he finds who stole his other F) subs in at 1B and occasionally in the OF- they've added Grady Sizemore since we've last seen them and he's been starting every day alternating between CF in place of Ben Revere and LF instead of Domonic Brown. The continued comeback attempt of Sizemore has, so far anyway, given the Phightin's a boost [.319/.360/.404 - in 47 ABs] but of course he did that in Boston for a short spell too before fading.- other than that, the rest of their lineup is pretty set with the usual suspects: Utley, Rollins, Aschie, Ruiz in the IF, and trade-bait Marlon Byrd starting virtually every game in RF- John Mayberry Jr is on the DL, Tony Gwynn Jr was released, plus I hear they've also canceled plans for a post-game concert by Hank Williams Jr., between innings entertainment by comedian Buddy Young Jr., and also a first-pitch ceremony with race car driver Junior JohnsonAJ Burnett vs Colon tonightTuesday: Hamels & GeeWednesday (12:10 start): Kendrick vs Wheeler- Multiple Phillies could be traded before the week is out.Odd scheduling note: This is the last Monday [u:m1msulk6]night[/u:m1msulk6] game until September 8th!The next three Mondays are all day games as a result of being the final games of a four-game "wrap-around" series [home vs Giants, at Philly, home v Cubs], then comes an off day on Aug 25, then back to a day game in Miami for Labor Day Monday
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Philadelphia at NY MetsWhen: 7:10 PM ET, Monday, July 28, 2014Where: Citi Field, New York City, New YorkSportsDirect Inc.Philadelphia Phillies slugger Ryan Howard capped a tumultuous week that included a three-game benching with a two-run homer to provide the spark in a 4-2 victory over Arizona on Sunday, but he was not in a celebratory mood. "Do you want to trade places?" Howard asked the media after Sunday's game. "Do you want to see what its like? No, you dont." Howard and the Phillies open a seven-game road trip versus division rivals when they visit the New York Mets on Monday night.New York went 5-5 on a 10-game road trip to kick off the second half of the season, winning four of its final six games and allowing a total of five runs in the four victories. Despite sitting five games under .500, the Mets are still within striking range of a wild-card slot after earning a four-game split with NL Central-leading Milwaukee. New York has won six of the nine meetings with the Phillies this season and went 4-1 in a five-game series at Philadelphia from May 29-June 2.TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia. SNY (New York)PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH A.J. Burnett (6-9, 3.86 ERA) vs. Mets RH Bartolo Colon (9-8, 4.03)Since winning back-to-back starts for the only time this season on April 27 and May 3, Burnett is only 4-8 in his last 15 turns despite allowing three runs or fewer 10 times. He did not factor in the decision last time out despite blanking San Francisco on four hits over eight innings and has won only once since June 20. Burnett struck out a season-high 11 but gave up five runs over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Mets on May 30.With the trade deadline looming, Colon could be making his final start with the Mets, who have made no secret of their willingness to deal the 41-year-old veteran. Colon won for the first time in a month at Seattle on Wednesday, permitting two runs on three hits over 7 1/3 innings. Colon, who beat the Phillies on June 2 with seven innings of two-run ball, is 4-4 with a 2.81 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in eight home starts.WALK-OFFS:1. Mets 1B Lucas Duda had three homers and six RBIs in the four-game series in Milwaukee.2. Howard has 40 homers and 114 RBIs in 136 games against New York.3. Mets 2B Daniel Murphy is 7-for-12 over his last three games.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Howard's contract:14:$25M, 15:$25M, 16:$25M, 17:$23M club option ($10M buyout)So the answer is, yes, Ryan, I would gladly trade places. I will happily sit on the bench. I will strike out >30% of my at-bats. For that money, I would even put on a Phillies hat and associate with Chase Utley, things that I would not ordinarily ever consider doing of my own free will.Let me know whenever you're ready to trade, thanks.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Colon is a double for Fidel Castro with these unis..
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 David Wright is getting on my nerves...
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I like how this ones gone so far. Listening to WOR on the radio and watching on the TV. The radio is getting to me 5 seconds quicker. SNY blocked when they are in Philly. I used to be okay with the Phils broadcasters. No more.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I may be crazy or paranoid, but Doc Gooden doesn't sound as good tonight as he had been.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Sorry Doc, but I don't want to listen to you reminisce for the whole freaking game.

He was one of the great voices of summer.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I hate the fact that the Mets seem to play well while wearing these fugly camo unis.

If this game was at the BandBox it would be 11-0.
