Mets have gone thus far using only five starters. According to Studious Metsimus, the Mets haven't gone this long without using a sixth starter since 2010, and this season is, in fact, the team's 10th-longest run with five starters from opening day.

But when I say, "thus far," it may be "thus far and no further," for Terry has strongly intimated that he isn't buying Jenrry Mejia's act as it stands. Alderson is as silent as the Sphinx.

Please click your pick above, but feel free to openly speculate on the Mets' pick.

Mejia. Don't give up on young talented starters so fast. Just don't.

I'll admit to some Schadenfreude here though. Some have been touting Tanaka's undefeated streak (didn't lose last year) and I'd love for him to face off with the undefeated Mejia and lose.

Did I see something about Mejia's innings limit recently? If someone was putting that out there, feel like it might be the groundwork for a switch to the bullpen. Personally I think there (should have been?) is a plan in place, at least a guideline, for when deGrom or Montero or even Thor is ready and given health (crosses fingers) that's the perfect time to transition Mejia and preserve his innings.

Bill Madden in the Snooze is rooting for Montero, but he wants juice in the Subway Series.

Me, I don't care who starts Wednesday. I really don't.

Montero.
Its the first step in moving Mejia to the bullpen to:
limit his innings
Work on his command
Turn him into a closer.
(Maybe not in that order)

Matsuzaka. Only because of the innings limits. Let him chew up some early-season innings. Mejia is going to be limited to around 125 innings, maybe 150, this year. No need to burn them up too soon. Same is true for Montero and deGrom.

Finding a way to reconcile the solid starting rotation they have with the solid-or-better options coming, while rehabbing solid Hefner and excellent Harvey --- it's probably the challenge of the season. And while most may have an opinion on the best way to do this, nobody really knows.

The better question may be: "Who will be in the rotation on September 30?"

This is it. This is Mejias big chance. His last chance to stay up front. He shows he can pitch in the circus-like atmosphere that is the subway series '14, or he shows why he would better serve us in the pen. Or, if his angry young man attitude makes him useless in the pen, off to Vegas.

We need 7 solid from him. If not, fail.

OE: nevermind.

I voted for Montero, 'cause that's who it is!

Harvey debuts on the road in Arizona. Wheeler gets to touch down in game two of an Atlanta double header. This guy gets to crash land into the Subway series.
