Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Bartolo Colon arrives in camp as a member of an endangered species. It was his sixth season before he became an Expo (thank you, Omar Minaya), but he has a chance to be the last remaining one.Below I rank the recently retired, the hinted at retirement (Livan is apparently just finalizing a deal to become an instructor with the Nats), the all-but-retired (sorry, Miguel Batista), and the still active. I rank them by their most recent game, but obviously that's a matter of luck to many of the remaining guys. But if they all retired today, Luis Ayala would be our winner. Some still nominally active guys, though, can still pass some officially retired guys with a single appearance.Colon is far from the youngest (see Izutris, Maicer), but he is the only one with a contract for 2015.19 =#BFBF00][crossout]Vladimir Guerrero[/crossout], of39 years, 7 days old.Final Game: 9/28/2011.Retired 9/2013.18 =#BFBF00][crossout]Geoff Blum[/crossout], 3b40 years, 9 months, 21 days old.Final Game: 7/17/2012.Retired 1/14/2013.17 =#BFBF00][crossout]Val Pascucci[/crossout], 1b/3b35 years, 2 months, 30 days old.Final Game: 9/27/2011.Retired 1/15/2014.16 =#0000FF]Javier Vazquez, sp37 years, 6 months, 22 days old. Most Recent Game: 9/27/2011Hasn't officially retired, but inactive.15 =#0000FF]Carl Pavano, sp38 years, 1 month, 8 days old. Most Recent Game: 6/1/2012.Free agent, injured in 2013.14 =#BFBF00][crossout]Brian Schneider[/crossout], c37 years, 2 months, 21 days old.Final Game: 8/23/2012.Retired 1/29/2013.13 =#0000FF]Miguel Batista, rp/sp42 years, 11 months, 28 days oldMost Recent Game: 9/11/2012.Currently a free agent.12 =#BFBF00][crossout]Livn Hernndez[/crossout], sp38 years, 11 months, 27 days old.Final Game: 9/29/2012.Implied retirement 1/27/201411 =#0000FF]Guillermo Mota, rp40 years, 6 months, 22 days oldMost Recent Game: 10/2/2012.In camp on minor-league deal with Kansas City.10 =#0000FF]Juan Rivera, lf35 years 7 months 13 days old. Most Recent Game: 10/3/2012.Free agent, played in the minors in 2013.9 =#0000FF]Jon Rauch, rp35 years, 4 months, 20 days. Most Recent Game: 5/11/2013.In camp on minor-league deal with Kansas City.8 =#BFBF00][crossout]Ted Lilly[/crossout], sp38 years, 1 month, 12 days oldMost Recent Game: 6/4/2013.Retired 11/27/2013.7 =#0000FF]Maicer Izturis, ss33 years, five months, 4 days old. Most Recent Game: 8/20/2013Under contract with Toronto.6 =#0000FF]Endy Chavez, of36 years, 9 days old. Most Recent Game: 9/23/2013In camp on minor-league deal with Seattle.5 =#0000FF]Jamey Carroll, 2b 39 years, 11 months, 29 days old. Most Recent Game: 9/27/2013.In camp on minor-league deal with Washington.4 =#0000FF]Bartolo Colon, sp40 years, 8 months, 23 days old. Most Recent Game: 9/27/2013.Under contract through 2015 with the Mets.3 =#0000FF]Scott Downs, rp37 years, 10 months, 30 days old. Most Recent Game: 9/28/2013.Under contract with the White Sox,2 =#0000FF]Bruce Chen, sp36 years, 7 months, 28 days old. Most Recent Game: 9/29/2013.Under contract with the Royals.1 =#0000FF]Luis Ayala, rp36 years, 1 month, 4 days oldMost Recent Game: 9/29/2013.In camp on minor-league deal with Washington. Two other notes:1) The proliferation of Latin American ballplayers on this list is a nice reminder what a great job this organization did scouting Latin America. They lost their fain base because they couldn't keep anybody after they reached free agency, but the team stayed viable on the field (if not marketable) by always reloading from their largely Latin American prospect base.2) How do you like Val Pascucci, staying in this little game so indefitagably. His entire career consists of 32 games with the 2004 Expos and 10 games with the 2011 Mets. He might have pulled off a stealth victory with a little luck.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Bruce Chen is almost 37?? He still looks like 24. My $$'s on him. #RIPExpos
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 The Mets were the final team for the last active New York Giant (Willie Mays) and the last active Brooklyn Dodger (Bob Aspromonte), so maybe they can go for the trifecta.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Yes, but by the early 70's they were pretty much past that. I wonder, who was the last Washington Senator? The last St. Louis Brown? The last Boston Brave? (I'm pretty sure the last Milwaukee Brave had to have been Henry Aaron.)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 The last Washington Sentator (Toby Harrah) and the last Seattle Pilot (Fred Stanley) still search for their Metliness.Name these other museum pieces:[list:22lobmjc][*:22lobmjc]Last active Boston Brave?[/*:m:22lobmjc][*:22lobmjc]Last active St. Louis Brown?[/*:m:22lobmjc][*:22lobmjc]Last active Philadelphia Athletic?[/*:m:22lobmjc][*:22lobmjc]Last active Milwaukee Brave?[/*:m:22lobmjc][*:22lobmjc]Last active Kansas City Athletic?[/*:m:22lobmjc][/list:u:22lobmjc]

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Just occurs to me Boston Brave would be a good name for a CBS procedural about the Boston fire dept.

Jeff Cirillo is my guess off the top of my head. His last game was the end of 2007, meaning he outlasted Jose Valentin and Jeromy Burnitz.
